New addition from left field: Rado

Catching up on a spot of news.  I’ve made a new addition the the quiver : a Rado Captain Cook in full ceramic 🤩❤️

Was trying on a whack of different GS and Prospex models that all were going to seriously stretch my expenses … and then on a whim, tried on this Rado that sparkled suggestively at me from behind the glass. On sale for 1/2 of what it costs at home, so I popped and went for it 😬

Rationale: In the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to try a ceramic watch (as I scratch everything pretty badly, on a routine basis).  In addition, I’ve tried on and really liked some of the other Captain Cook stainless models.

The full ceramic is a total looker for me: I‘m a sucker for blacked out divers and this one is scratch proof, nice mix of matte and polish and a subtle skeleton that you don’t notice at a glance but looks amazing up close.
The bezel tilts inward to catch the light and the crystal domes out in the opposite direction strikingly.  Great angles and light play.
Nice clicky 120 bezel feel that has zero play in it.  28k bph and 80hr power reserve running at +1 second per day.

Crown is big and easy to grab.  Unscrewing and winding is easy and feels solid.   ti cage inside the ceramic case and ti case back.

The ceramic is not cold at first touch, unlike steel or Ti, but otherwise feels pretty much exactly same as wearing a metal watch.  It’s slightly lighter than steel but not as light as Ti.
Only a few days into the honeymoon phase so far so far so still quite pumped about this watch. 😌

BTW - Upcoming posts (soonish) on Seiko Museum, Grand Seiko studio tour and a photo album of watches and wonders (Japan tourism version)  from the last couple weeks.

Very nice, I had my eye on the red/bronze cook for a long time, but wanted it with a braclet.

Fantastic watch! Can’t wait to hear all about the trip!!!

Oh that Captain Cook played dirty.  Signaling to you with sparkles of light.  I've had it happen to me.  Everyone I know  who has a CC loves it and I am sure you will too.   Congratulations on that stunning watch.

Big congrats! I've been fortunate to handle many of their new releases (review of bronze chrono coming soon). And the Plasma Blue Ceramic was just stunning!

That’s a beautiful watch. I just bought a skeletonized dial diver and thought I’ve never seen one like it before, but clearly there’s others out there

Honestly, I had never really considered a Rado, but man this one looks sharp!

The Rado bracelets are indeed to nice to miss if getting a cook.  Goofy it’s not an option on that one

Very similar - but bit more subtle?  That colorway looks like steel at a glance ill bet.  Looking forward to your review 👍

100% - I had tried a green Cook on beads of rice bracelet just for kicks a few months ago and was shocked how nice it looked.

This one I tried on when I saw the nutzo low sale price attached to it.  Both pop 💥on the wrist and easy to read

Jack Road! My favourite place to visit whenever I have to chance to be in Japan.

The Rado looks great, that smoky dial hiding the skeletonized movement until the light hits it is a sight to behold.
