Certina DS4 small seconds review

I picked this Certina up a couple months ago in a trade for my RZE Fortitude.  So far I've been impressed with it.   While it is on the dressy side it doesn't look out of place with jeans and a t-shirt.

Specs:

40mm case size

21mm lug width

12.45mm thick

44.5mm lug to lug (rough measure)

100m water resistance

Eta 2825-2 movement

The watch fits comfortably on my 8.25" wrist but would wear well on smaller wrists as well. Aesthetically the crown fits the case but I wish it was a little larger when I go to set the time.

My particular eta 2825-2 has been running about +4 seconds a day.   As a bonus I like the turtle on the rotor.

The 21mm lug width is a bit of an annoyance but in the scheme of things it's not too bad.   The watch came on aftermarket tan leather that was too small so I had it on my 20mm hirsch pure band for a week until I got a black leather band in that fit.  There is also a bracelet available but I haven't looked to hard to find one.   To give you an idea of the look I borrowed a photo from a regional watch group on Facebook.

Lume is acceptable given that this is a dressier watch.

For me the real highlight is the dial.   The way the light plays with the texture is really pleasing.  Depending on the angle you can see the waves at other angles you see geneva stripes.

Overall this is a great watch and quite the bargain grey market.

I love this watch, the overall quality and the details on the dial and hands are outstanding. The AR coating is fantastic too.

Great watch!

I like it. i don’t usually like a dressier type of watch, but as you say the dial is very nice.

Apologies for necro post.

But I’m gifting mine to my little bro who turns 30 today, and happy that I found this post. ✊
