Are Homage watches a Bingo or No-Go?

To each their own. Homage watches are typically not my thing but I understand their appeal.

I have zero problem with "homage" watches.

In the past few years they have improved exponentially in build quality and accuracy.

And it seems like they bother some collectors far more than they do the original manufacturers.

I've been collecting for many years and have added  3 Steeldives, a Tactical Frog and a couple Pagani Designs to the herd over the past 3 years. All get worn as frequently as my "originals"

So I vote BINGO!

Good point. I hadn’t thought about that before. There does seem to be more talk from collectors than the manufacturers.

I vote bingo too! No issues with homages  at all. In particular I find myself drawn to steinharts where I would never buy a Rolex even if one was available. I also like steeldive and similar.

So much good reading on it on the site. Vs. rehashing it here, would suggest this thread. Lots of strong takes.

I do love a homage watch, they are great if you aren't sure if you want to spend the money on the real thing but aren't sure.

·

I have no problem with them, I just won't wear them.

Bingo boi not everyone has a bunch of money like scrooge mcduck

Some people seem to have a problem with homages based more on who makes them/where the company is based (because pretending a shit ton of watches aren’t ‘made in China’ whatever it says on the dial and whatever technicalities it fulfills is silly — my iPod says made in Cupertino, but I do t think it really was) because of things like QC and customer service.

Thing is, we will still buy watches where the warranty isn’t worth a jot — eBay, vintage, JDM, American watches if you live in Europe, European watches if you live in America etc etc. Not everything has an international warranty, let alone a service centre.

But… EBay, and Amazon in particular, take a lot of that away. You can buy an ‘Aliexpress’ watch from somewhere other than Aliexpress, and be covered by Amazon basically.

Me?

My Pagani’s were second hand from eBay, and I have no warranty to worry about. But reckon I could movement swap them myself if push came to shove. And they work fine.

I’m with you Govnor64. I can not see buying a Rolex or any watch that costs that much. I have others things which I need my money for. Plus there are a lot of nice watches out there that don’t  cost an arm and a leg.

Hey AllTheWatches. Thanks for sharing the thread. Not my intent to start a homage debate here more of a live and let live approach. I know it can be a hot topic but really glad to see people exchanging info here and being respective of the fact that we all don’t have to like the same watches. And that’s ok.

Hey JamieMaderia. That’s a main concern of mine too. Buying something from AliExpress and not being able to  return it if there is a problem. I tend to buy from Amazon for that very reason.  I know at least they will stand behind the sale for 30 days.

Hi Namtheman. I get that And totally respect that. Even if I had $10,000 to spend on a watch, I think I could find better things to spend my money on. For me  personally, I just don’t care for a direct copy. I’m more happy with a watch when it has some original design elements. But I have nothing against people who like homage watches.

Hey 77red96. Good point. I bought an homage to a briston once. ( didn’t know at the time it was an homage) and found I really didn’t like the square case shape. In fact, I hated it.

Spot on my friend. Lots of expensive stuff o  my long term wish list but Rolex doesn't feature at all! Meanwhile I'm enjoying being budget driven!

It’s all good! Just figured I’d share a recent thread. We all enjoy different watches and that’s what separates this place.

True that. I just joined the group about a month ago, but so far I am enjoying it. People seem to respect each other, regardless of what their personal tastes in watches may be. That's what a watch community should be. 👍

Big no for me, I will never wear them.

But I have no problem with homage watches. I have no problem with people who buys them and also will not make any satirical comments at people who buy both homage/original designs too. 😉

Watches are watches. They are for us to enjoy.
