My first review ( be gentle with me)

Before I start: I've only just developed the watch bug in the last 6 weeks, so I don't have a benchmark to compare with. My background is in engineering ( hands on mostly)

I've worked in engineering for the last 51 years😮. Starting as a toolmaker. Currently work in a business making prosthetic legs, some parts are toleranced to a few microns. 0.001" is 0.025microns for those who still use imperial. Some time is usually spent checking parts using a 5 times magnification eyepiece. So, I like to think that I have an eye for poor workmanship.

Moving back to the watch. I became aware of Elliot Brown after watching You Tube. I was intrigued as the watches are designed about 40 miles from me.

I got mine second hand from a watch collector who had hardly worn it, so it was just under half the full price.👍

ISA Swiss 331-103 5-jewel quartz movement with 3-hands, date, end of life indicator and 3-year battery life.

The date window is set at 4:30, it is tiny, too small perhaps. Fortunately despite my 67 years, I can still read it without glasses. Only in good light though.

The blue dial is pleasing to my eye, the hands are well lumed, unfortunately the same can't be said for the lume on the indices. I found out by accident that the logo on the buckle is lumed, quite a nice touch I thought. The internal bezel is operated by the top crown and feels smooth. It has a slightly domed sapphire crystal. It is easy to read the time, sounds obvious as it's a watch, but, I've seen watches that style seems more of a concern than function. The two crowns are triple sealed ( So I read) So they do not need to be the screw down type.

The 44mm x 13.5 deep case is 316l S/S, use this at work on lots of components.  The case has a good finish, and the back of the watch isn't screwed down, but is held in place by 6 screws. Seems like they have looked at Vostok Amphibias. The back has the Elliot brown logo machined into it.

The 22mm strap isn't held in by spring bars which were the only design I'd seen. Looking at the lugs,( 54mm across) a screw head can be seen, so the " spring bar" may be a threaded bar. ( can't see that it could be anything else.) It uses a deployment clasp and feels very secure, quite easy to adjust, and do up and undo. The leather itself seems to be of good quality, as it should be. The Elliot Brown website charges £60 for one. 😮

When I first opened the box, I thought it was an alarm clock! Watches were generally smaller 40 years ago. It does fit under a shirt cuff... dependent on your shirts.

I've read  / seen various reviews that query the use of a " cheap" quartz movement, I don't have an opinion on that.

All in all I like the watch, which as we all know, is the only thing that matters to the owner. I'm typing this on my laptop, considerably more of a faff to download the necessary photo.

That's it , time to see ( time, threw in a pun there) if I can use my mobile and add the photo. Update...... I didn't realise that I can't post without a photo, so, excuse the random photo.😉

One last comment. The use of the word "quality" when many don't understand its meaning.

A quality product meets or exceeds the customers expectations. This comes with a warning, the owner of a new Rolls Royce will have different expectations of their car, and the implications of quality. Perceiving that a cheap car can never be a quality product, even though its owner may have his expectations met or exceeded, and for them it is a quality product.

There, my waffling is done.

Good review for a nice looking watch. I might need to consider Elliot Brown for my own collection. I like what you said about quality, as someone who buys affordable watches and cars I agree completely. 👍

·

Good written reveiw, you've summed up the plusses and the minuses very well, only criticism more pictures(and in the original post, but I think you know that 😉) . It's a great looking watch and thanks for sharing it with us. Keep it up, and I look forward to your next reveiw, cheers.

Nice review.I have a Holton on my radar . These look like great tool watch's to my eye.

·

I didn't see a price range...

I love the blue dial and the easy-to-read display! 💪

·

Price for you depends on the £ to dollar exchange rate. £400 here. Seen it in a sale at £308

As an additional piece of information, according to their website each watch is pressure tested, not just a random %.

Ha ha I have the same mug.

Nice looking watch, if a bit on the large size for me, fits your wrist spot on though.
