Orient Kamasu Review

Been wearing this watch for a month now, and I have to say sorry to my other watches since it’s been occupying my wrist time more than the others. Sorry guys 😜

Many reviews had been made about this watch being the best affordable dive watch. Others are calling it the “SKX killer”. Perhaps some SKX lovers are gonna protest to this post, but objectively I have to agree to these reviews.

I got this watch for $210 in Indonesia. Can’t compare the value for money with other watches. Reliable in house movement with second hand hacks. With diameter under 42mm, thickness under 13mm, making it not too bulky to wear in various situation. With screw down crown, and of course what everyone is buzzing about this watch…the sapphire crystal. All for the same price for other more popular watches like Seikos. Sorry Seiko and your SRPD line. I actually sold my green teal SRPD for exchange with this Kamasu. Better dimension, better specs.

I really love the dial. Just the right balance between sporty and dressy looks, with complex sun burst and texture. In some conditions it looks like a black matte, but when you bring it into the sun it become another being. It feels like having two different watch, depending on the environment. Some people dislike the Orient logo and the day date display. But for me that’s exactly the pros of the dial. Many details on the logo on such a small space, and a frame for the day date make it more refine with polished finishing.

Some people who’re not familiar with the Orient brand probably will have doubt in choosing this watch. But actually for me that’s exactly why I love wearing it. Only watch enthusiast will appreciate this brand more, which make the watch feels more special to me.

The cons? I want to say it’s the bracelet, but it’s even better than entry level Seikos bracelet. Maybe the lug size. I think it will looks more refine with 20mm bracelet tapered to 18-16mm. And the crown guard can have a better design, making it easier to operate. But it’s all minor complaints, compare to the value I get for the money.

Saying hi to all the Kamasu users, drop some pics and strap options of your Kamasus!

Brilliant watches, and wear quite small for their size, here's mine the pvd model and with the gold edged indices adds a bit of bling (the only watch I like with the day date,it's just good on this watch)

Great review! Looking forward to purchasing either the Kamasu or the Mako II.

Nice review. I agree that easy wearing divers may be the good daily wears. Resilient and good looking.

I've been collecting for just under a year. I have twenty odd watches, nothing too expensive yet. My Kamasu was an early purchase and remains my favourite.

On holiday I wore it in the sea and the pool and then again to dinner when dressed up. A great versatile watch. I love the fact that non watch people don't know the brand!

I absolutely love my Kamasu. It’s such a workhorse of a watch. There are a few minor gripes but they don’t change my opinion at all that the Kamasu is the best value watch at the moment.

My gripes:

  • The bracelet doesn’t taper (I think; or at least not enough). For that reason it looks dated and not as modern.
  • The secondary closure on the clasp gets loose after a while of usage. Happens with this kind of designed clasp.
  • No tool-less micro adjust on the bracelet. But hey, at this price point that’s ok.
  • Bezel action is kinda mushy. But again, not bad for this price point.

Thanks for this review.  The red dial is the one for me.
