Do you have a theme for your watch collection?

Mine is movie / popular culture related watches. With my limited budget, these are some watches that I can get my hands on for now.

Casio A100, the reissue of F100 used in the 1st Alien movie. Seiko Giugiaro Spirit “Ripley” reissue from the movie “Aliens” in two color ways. The reissue Seiko Arnie SNJ025. Hamilton “Cooper” from the movie Interstellar. Casio Royale (I don’t know if it should be included here, since the original digital watch used by James Bond in the movie Octopussy were supposed to be a Seiko that looks similiar like this). And the Seiko SKX009, used by Robert Redford in the movie “All Is Lost”.

There are still some watches that I’d love to add. From the Seiko Willard to Omega’s 007 Seamaster to Casio data bank from Back To the Future.

Still need some input for music related watches, haven’t had any. I know that Mick Jagger used to rock the vintage Seiko Turtle, or Bruce Lee with Seiko 6139 chrono.

So any of you also collect watches with spesific theme? If so, what is it?

Nice themed collection you have there.

My theme? Whatever pretty watches I can buy. 😛

·

That's a nice themed collection!

My collection theme used to be "they fit my wrist". But then I bought a 47mm Ingersoll that doesn't fit the theme.

So I changed the theme to "they tell the time" until I bought a really cheap HMT that only fits the theme for first hour after setting it.

Now I'm just buying more watches

Love the Giugarios!  Crossover between Japan and Italy. It's not often you get an Italian automotive designer working on watches :)

”More watches” sounds like a nice theme 😅

The Giugiaros is one of my favorite too from my collections 👍 Cool retro futuristic looks.

No particular theme, but I wanted to make sure I had a good variety

How many brands? 12

How many countries? 6

How many dial colors? 9

How many divers? 7

How many non-divers? 8

How many microbrands: 7

Non-Microbrands: 8

Some on bracelets, some on rubber, some on leather, one on nato strap.

All dials that have same color are either different types of watches or on different straps. Example: my four blue watches. Two are divers, one micro with a yellow pin and buckle rubber strap, one major brand on blue deployant rubber strap. For the other two blues, one major brand on bracelet, one micro also on a bracelet, but titanium and the blue is a MOP mosaic design.

·

This is a fine example of why I don't claim to have a collection. Get an F-91W though. It's been in many films

·

My theme was cheapskate. quartz analog watch $2.00, Chinese skeleton watch $27.00, NH35 watch $70.00, Miyota 8series watch  $60.00, Swiss powermatic 80 watch $220.00 and VK63 chrono watch $65.00 all CDN

·

My answer is still the same.

·

A. Do I like. Yes or No

B. Can I afford. Yes or No.

If A AND B = True

then

Watch = My theme

·

Nice collection you have there. Movie watches is one of the themes in my collection, but there are others. I have two iconic movie watches that I added for that specific reason; my Seiko SNJ025 (I am looking for an actual H558 to add to my collection) and my Seiko G757 Silverwave (it is not the actual one worn by Bond, which was the sport version, but it is close enough for me).

Other watches in my collection that have appeared in movies include my Casio G Shock GMW5610 (I am actually looking for an original DW5000C to add to my collection, like I am with an original H558), my Casio CA53W Databank, and my Casio A100 (although it is the Pac Man version 😉).

·

Not much of a theme for me. I buy what I like and what I can afford. But I guess you can say I lean to the sporty side.

·

I view my collection as a physical representation of every time my willpower gives out and I buy yet another unnecessary watch.

Oh and I guess a few nice memories too.

·

I have a few movie watches, but I wouldn’t say it’s a theme. You could easily add the CA53 from Back to the Future. There’s also the Alsta Jaws watch.

·
TimeCop

Love this theme. I own the Coop for the same reason. I doubt many people have bought it who haven't seen the film. Thoughts on adding the Murph (or mini Murph)?

the Murph of course is on my list. But with the price point I think I’m going to wait for the preloved one with a drop price

Cool theme! If you like Elvis take a look at the Hamilton Ventura. In fact Hamilton is the number one watchbrand for moviewatches!😉

unfortunately I don’t really like the Ventura’s design. despite it being used by Elvis and in the movie Men in Black. Hamilton & Seiko are the two brand that have a lot of pop culture relations 👍

Sweet group and I like the theme idea.  Yes, the Willard in the right colorway seems like prefect addition for you.  A star wars themed watch would also be good for you, I’ve got the Aquis Star Wars which has the classic death star battle (1977 edition) playing out subtlety on the dial

Looked in back on my collection for a theme: I’m dive watch guy that leans Japanese.

love your Oris!! This is another wishlist of mine!

·

Over the years, as my collection started to get large and unmanageable, I reorganized and broke it down into mini groups each with a theme if you will.  I've posted some of these themed groups already, you can look them up if you are interested to see what I have been doing.  I believe this method has helped me to  obtain better focus, with the goal of a collection that makes more sense overall.

Rob Morgan as Dr Oglethorpe wears the Casio AE1200WHD-1A (Casio Royal)  watch in the 2021 Netflix movie. Don’t Look Up.

Didn’t notice that 👍 time to rewatch it!

The Alsta is hard to find 😱

I have one of the recently re-released ones I‘m considering parting with if you’re interested. But yeah, the originals are pretty hard to find, and pricey in good condition.

I call mine.....Whatever I Can Afford.

·

I buy based on case material and dial manufacturing processes: https://www.watchcrunch.com/K.evin/posts/sotc-and-future-plans-16370. I have watches planned out to 2074 but I have no doubt my tastes will change as new watches come out. Since this post I’ve bought the Grand Seiko Winter (titanium) and Cartier Tank Americaine (rose gold with flinqué dial).

Ha ha, trying to work out from your numbers how many watches you have in your collection. Bit of a head scratcher but I’m guessing 15 in total?

Hahaha Yes! 😜  Filled the watchbox last month.

The wheels fell off my Dive watch Theme about 6 months ago. Now I'm all about Vintage/Retro with a touch of New and a little Red second hand flare!

Loving it! While I don’t have a theme for my overall collection, I recently acquired 2 “miami” themed watches, so I could say I an starting capsule collection (yes, that can sound pretentious 😂)
