It's rare that I find myself interested in a bit of Hodinkee content, but the most recent talking watches was the best I've seen in many years

A varied collection, unique references (hype brands but off the run pieces) and some lovely relatable collector stories.

Agree, best episode for long. Allen seems like a symphatic person with distance to his hobby. And some nice looking watches of course.
Yeah this was nice. A bit of the bigger pieces in his collection, but he can take them, fits the guy.
@u_n_d_y I especially appreciated that he skipped a lot of the hype pieces and went for things that clearly fit his wrist and his personality (the Gondolo instead of a smaller calatrava or the royal oak offshore rather than a submariner or a RO).

Yeah definitely, very recognizable how he has what grabbed him.
The holy trinity, a gold rolex, and a panerai beater. I should have been a crane operator!
Great episode. I enjoyed the conversation.

Right?
Regardless it sounds like he started early and pretty humble collecting wise and did pretty well in his career and just kept trading in and accumulating. I do love stories like that. It feels so much more organic as a collecting process.
If I ever go to a Redbar meet up I hope a guy like Allen shows up.
Like saving for retirement, he makes a strong case for starting young with watch collecting... Great episode, interesting collection, thanks!
Agreed with all points above, and loved this episode as well. Hope they will take all of this feedback (lots online/YT) and keep going in this direction with real people who have built their collections in interesting ways.
