The story behind my first mechanical watch

So first post here, thought by starting it off with my first mechanical timepiece.

I always wore watches for as long as I can remember, therefore there is no memory as far as when the passion for watches really started.

I’ve lived with my dad for a couple of years after my parents divorced. In those years our neighbour accross the street sold his house so we got new neighbours. Then when they were moving stuff I noticed a very special car (Caterham 620r). At the time I didn’t have a clue on what it was but it seemed very interesting as I was into cars and racing.

then once they’ve moved he came to say hi and we got to know each other. Then he asked me if I wanted to grab ice cream with him in his Caterham! At the time he was wearing a Speedmaster from 1970 (145.022), and also I didn’t know what it was but as with the car and the watch I kind of fell in love at first sight.

In the years after basically we became really close, did rally’s together and a friendship started to grow. Then I had saved up and asked him about watches investmentwise and what kind of watches he had etc. He told me about his Speedmaster, the history and all the difference in reference which blew my mind and got me really interested in Omega. He helped me search for one with correct references and calibers.

Fast forward to last year when I bought mine, We went together to pick it up and it is one of my most prized possesions still to this day.

thanks for reaching it this far enjoy the weekend 👌🏽

Wonderful!  Is that the new 3861 in hesalite?  They did good with the new coaxial speedy 👏

·

That's a great story, thanks for sharing it.

Great story and appreciate you taking the time to share it! Your Speedy is a beautiful piece - and clearly much more special based on the shared experience and relationship you built with your neighbor. Great photo as well… and Welcome to the Crunch! 🤙

Beautiful story and watch! I have a similar watch from 1995 and absolutely love the balance of the bracelet and the watch.

What watches did you wear before this mechanical one?

Nice! I’ve had Casio, Swatches and just a couple of ‘fashion’ quartz watches. Didn’t know anything about it really but I always wore a watch as long as I can remember
