Please be honest, is it going to be ok? Just dinged my Speedmaster

Help. I was holding my Speedmaster admiring it like a dummy when it slipped and hit the rim of my ceramic coffee mug. Put a dent/ding on the bezel. Circled the location of emotional damage in the pic for reference. Am I going to be ok? But seriously, bummed me out, most expensive watch I own and my grail and most of my other watches are in great shape with no dings/dents while being older. I can’t not look at that ding every time I look at it now. Please tell me it’ll be alright, I’ll beat it up more, it adds character, and why I shouldn’t give up and sell it now. Thanks,

You will be fine, I promise. :-).

I dinged mine, but more on the side, after a little work, I cannot even notice it. Your’s is a little tougher I feel. There are plenty of places that can repair it (laser weld I believe) for a as little as a couple hundred bucks.

I'm not sure how you're going to be able to continue living. I mean, that's a clearly visible ding. Women will laugh at you when they compare you to dingless watch owners. EVEN TUDORS

Fortunately, you have me here to help.

Here's what you do. Take your welder and do a spot weld on that area, then take a flat file and contour it. Finish with sandpaper, and Bob's your uncle.

·

No that is terrible...sell it to me for $1 if it eases your mind 😜.

Look man, that watch has been to the MOON (someone keeps reminding us about that), a little ding ain't gonna do anything to it.

On the flip side, you can make up a good story for how you got that ding. Like you were rock climbing and slipped and if not for the watch catching a ledge, you wouldn't be here to tell the story. Cheers.

·

I think I added several to mine (which arrived with several already present). The first is always the worst, but unless you're planning to sell it soon, or if you're planning to put it in a display case, then all it's done is make it your own.

Character!

·

Look at it this way, it’s definitely yours! It’s the only one like it in the world! If it ever gets nicked then the cops will be able to identify it and get it back for you! Finally, now it’s got a ding in it, chill and ask yourself…would Buzz care? I seriously doubt it. Move on 😎

·

Before it was just another speedmaster and now it's officially your speedmaster, there isn't another one exactly like it.

You could actually laser weld it to repair it, stunning process to see.

·

If you just got a Moonswatch instead this wouldn't be a problem.

·

it's called another memorable moment 😛 and like others said, it's now your and one of kind

·

That’s funny… the story I heard was that you dinged it on the roll cage as you recovered from a near fatal skid while testing a prototype super car at the Nurburgring… something about a wet track and you catching air over the Flugplatz?

·

Don't worry about it too much , it is the first of many. 👍

·

It’s heart breaking when that happens, I have had my fair share of drops. Even brand new watch, one time crystal face down on marble floors, as I took it out of the box. All of them survived, I was by bummed out like you for a few days. It happens, it’s part of life, the watch survived you will get over it in couple of days.

True! When in doubt, do it like Buzz!

·

It happens. Your watch still has a soul and that is what counts. But don't worry. I realized what happened after half a minute looking in red circle.

·

It hurts but it will happen again and again, enjoy it as it is in future you can repolish it

·

Looks fantastic... even if you smack it again

·

I have horrible terrible bad news for you, you just gave it omega cancer. Quickly sell it to me on the cheap before its too late.

Your distress reminds me of how I felt when I got the first ding in the side of my first new car. Expecting any object in regular use to remain flawless indefinitely is setting yourself up for unhappiness. Would you reject your soulmate and potential life partner because she had a tiny scar on her face? No, because it makes her face more interesting. It’s a sign of having lived. So it is with watches.

What if she has a big scar? Or plan on getting more scars? What should I do? 🥺

·

Congrats. First of many hopefully! When you move it on to the next owner they won’t know that was the first unique part of a story writ large encompassing all the other beauty marks it will undoubtably accumulate.

·

Just means you made it yours 😎.

·

The first one always fu*^%}^ sucks, but you’ll get over it. I promise. Case and bracelet scratches and dings are part of owning a watch. Now crystal scratches on the the other hand………..

·

It's a tool so I think it's expected to get a few dings and dents. It adds character.

·

It’s the first ding that hurts. It’s still almost perfect. Enjoy it.

·

You guys are right. Actually, it feels like a bit of weight off my shoulders. Plenty of use and travels for this speedy in its future!

·

Leave it lying on the road for a few hours. After that, you wont notice the ding.

·

It adds character my friend, watches are for wearing in my mind, the odd ding doesn’t change the fact, it serves as a moment in time.

·

And from now on keep to plastic cups.

·

Welcome to the club, you will be fine. I admit, it really hurt when I noticed the ding in my Speedy, but it is like it is…
