I wasn't expecting a Rolex in just 3 weeks!

Ok, I kind of hate to write this, because it seems like Im showing off, but I'm genuinely excited.

Some of you might remember last week when I shared a post of my new JLC that I got in celebration of my time here in Hawaii, the obstacles I have overcome this past year, and as a reminder of the deep blue water in which I went shark diving in.

Well, as I was saving up for my JLC I stopped in and talked to the salesman of my Omega, as I do once a month or so, who told me he waited for only 3 months to get his Rolex Batman from the boutique across the street. This inspired me to go and put my name in for a Rolex OP41. I wasn't expecting to get it for months... so I bought my JLC thinking I had time to save up.

Well, I got the JLC on Wednesday and on Friday I got the call that my Rolex was ready after just 3 weeks! So yes I got it, but I wasn't ready for it and my wife really had a talk with me about waiting a looooong time before my next one.

The OP41 is a really solid watch. This blue dial is exactly what I was looking for. I took my two oldest (out of 5) with me to share the experience. One day, I might pass this down to one of them or a grandkid. This is much better than getting a watch in the mail. Sharing the experience with my kids is something I hope they remember.

I guess wait times really are shrinking, so go ahead and put your name out there, and don't pay over retail!

I had a similar experience this weekend. Picked up a blue DJ within a month.

Congratulations my friend

·

Congrats. Great to hear stories like this. Enjoy your new watch 👏

·

The waitlist game kept me from even considering Rolex. Congrats! It is nice to see an actual Watch customer able to buy at an AD.

·

You've got your Rolex, and from the looks of it, your kiddos have god-tier G-Shocks. A solid watch family, all around! 😎 Cheers! 🍻 And congratulations!

·

Two beautiful watches in quick succession.

Congratulations.

On the subject of passing down watch collections, that's exactly one of the reasons why I collect the types of things that I do, not only just watches; I will leave my antique typewriter collection to my daughter, I will leave both my son and my daughter each a portion of my gun collection, I will leave my watch collection to my son, but I am now in the habit of buying my wife and my daughter watches for birthdays and Christmas (and for my wife, also Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.)

The stuff I leave behind, is stuff that will become family heirlooms, things kept not for their monetary value (although some items might become valuable over time); but for their value as part of our family's legacy. "This is my great grandfather's Tissot, that he always wore whenever the family went out to dinner, or to the movies. And now I wear it for whenever I take my family out." Etc.

That's also why the new house that my wife and I are building is going to be put into a trust. It is going to be our family's estate, for generations to come. However far my descendants may roam, they will always have this house to come back to.

Congrats! I'm still waiting for my OP36 silver dial. Oops, that reminds me, I need to update my request at the ADs hehe.

·

From all of us still awaiting the call....

no, the first time I ever walked in the door... I didn't even make a check-up call.

That's a beautiful story. We have a lot of family traditions... for example, we go to the cinema every three months or so and take a picture before it comes on. It's great to look back at all the movies we watched together how they have grown through them.

I won't have an estate to pass on to them but a few trinkets like the rolex, lots of lessons and hopefully siblings they can count on

Siblings, parents, family traditions, and memories are all treasures which surpass the Rolex (and the land, and the house) in value. The material things that we have to pass down are the gravy. 😎

In other words, you're doing it right! 😃👍

P.S. The estate-in-trust is a big risk for us. Our entire 18-year savings, all of the equity in our current house, plus help from our parents all went into this project. All of our eggs are in one basket, so to speak. And I gotta tell ya, that makes me a little nervous, lol. 🤣 I will feel a lot better once the construction is complete. 🙂

Congratulations! But my wait-time was even shorter than yours…

Last month, I walked into a jewelry store to try on some Tudors, Cartiers, and a few others. First time ever in this store. I casually asked if they had a Rolex available (they are an AD) and she said yes, one. A two-tone Datejust.

I wasn’t even planning on putting my name on a waitlist. I never thought I’d buy a Rolex. And I left the store with it on my wrist!

Beautiful watch. And your wife is clearly very cool! 🥂

·

great write-up! And even better watch, congrats! I have this watch in my sights as my next purchase, it looks amazing!
