The story of my watch collecting. Part 1.

Hola amigos!

Up to this point, I was just an observer of the forum, but today I decided to start actively maintaining a profile, since I really love watches and I have something to share. In the first part, I will share how I plunged into the watches topic and from what watches my journey began.

So, for many-many years I wore a very light, cheap and incredibly comfortable Xiaomi Amazfit Bip and was very happy. However, one terrible day, it occurred to me that I didn't have any real watches that could be worn for any occasion. At that time, I didn't even know the difference between quartz and mechanics and was sure that there were no other watches in the world besides Rolex and Casio.

Starting a leisurely viewing of videos on YouTube, I decided for myself that only idiots buy watches more expensive than $300, but even in this range the choice is huge. I quickly realized the difference between fashion brands and truthful ones and determined that I needed a reliable, compact watch in a sporty style, bright enough and recognized in the watch community.

Orient Mako 2 fit perfectly into these criteria. Water resistance of 300 meters, reliable and cheap to maintain mechanism, respected brand, perfect size on 16.5 cm wrist, day-date, arabic numerals, blue color and all this at a price of $150 from gray dealers. It looks like a system hack!

I immediately purchased them and my expectations were fully met. The hours are incredible! I bought a million сhinese straps and lived with them for a year. I wore them absolutely everywhere, slept in them, swam in the ocean, trained and went to wedding events. They was running almost at zero. The only drawback was the curved bezel, mineral glass and aluminum bezel, which were scratched easily.

However, the first search of watches opened pandora's box and now I could not stop. I registered on all forums, subscribed to all YouTube bloggers, and unfortunately, I began to understand the difference between $300 and $3000 watches. In addition, the people around me, to whom I proudly showed my Orient, told me that this was not a solid watch for me. So I justified for myself another purchase of a watch.

But I will write about this in the next part of my story! Thanks to everyone who read to the end!

This is like sitting down to watch Requiem for a Dream...  the descent into depravity will leave us all haunted for the rest of our lives.

Nice to hear your story. Orient Mako 2 was also one of my first mechanical watches when I started collecting.

I don't let go of the hope to stop😂

An Orient Mako 2, what an awesome watch!  With that available, what idiot would spend more than $300 on a watch? I mean who could want for more? 😉

I feel like I've seen this movie before.

Oh and welcome!

Ah yes, seems like only yesterday I was telling myself a couple dozen watches is surely enough for anyone. Apparently anyone except me. Well into the 3rd dozen now but I can stop anytime I want to. I just don't want to. 😉

There is a chance I'm an idiot in a room full of idiots 🤔

BUT: Only idiot actually pays more than 300$ for a watch 🥲
