What are you waiting for?

After my recent post related to disappointment over a Fears, many of my fellow Crunchers offered kind consolation, and among them was @Aurelian  and his suggestion of...

I've said before that choosing a vintage watch feels like....

Image

... So it was with some trepidation that I started perusing some recommend websites where I quickly came across the Polerouter and fell in love.

Image

A couple of days of binge research showed me I'm pretty late to the party on this beauty of a watch. @Max  did a great video on his model (the one owned by Bruce Lee, since he has to be a bit 'extra') a couple of years ago:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cEsYX4c1yXo

So I've decided to jump into the vintage pool with a Universal Geneve and now starts the long wait for it to be delivered.

Image

Anyone else eagerly awaiting a delivery or a pre-order and want to join me?

I've been waiting for a summertime watch from Studio Underdog since March.

I am looking forward to your first pole dance with the Polerouter as well.

Hipsters much? 🤣

I'm waiting for my fortune to arrive so I cam buy watch. Does that count? I don't this it has shipped yet. #sad

·

I have a white Direnzo DR 04 Mondial v2 on pre-order.  Microbrands don't tend to last in my collection long (and white watches have an even lower life expectancy), but hope springeth eternal and I have heard wonderful things.

I am going to get blamed if this isn't a great watch, right?

I love these Polerouters. Top Five vintage watch in my book.

As of today, I am not waiting any longer for anything.  I am trying to figure out what I just bought:

I normally know such things, but sometimes you buy first and research later.

My guess is that you are waiting for this one

Very intriguing. Is the W missing from the word beneath Lincoln!? That would be an unusual branding.

·

I’m just enjoying that you called Max extra.

Just the German spelling of anchor, what could you be implying? 🤣 I am thinking that it is Hermes and Hermes from Pforzheim.  The "Lincoln" branding takes it in another direction.

Congratulations - looking forward to seeing photos of it when it arrives.

I'm trying to save up a bunch of cash so that we can do a major renovation of our upstairs - turn it into a livable space, instead of the Dante's 4th ring of hell ice cavern it is in the winter and the Milton fiery hellish furnace it is in the summer.  (Previous owner renovated the upstairs and it's beautiful...  she just neglected to put in any INSULATION!!!  WTF???)  So, I've promised not to buy any new watches until March 2024.

This is what our upstairs feels like...

Instead, I ended up buying like 10 Delugs straps this month, so I ended up cash flow negative this month, and am waiting for the SLGA015 to drop below $9k so that I can blow a bunch of cash on that...

That's a gorgeous example - if that's not the one @Deeperblue is waiting for, and if it's for sale, I'd be interested in learning more about it.

I'm growing impatient...😅😂😳!!! Pictures already 😩🤣!!!

The watch is going to be fabulous🧡💯⌚👍.

I will share pics as soon as I have it! Literally sat here staring out my front room window as I type! 😂

It was sold just recently and the timing make it possible to be the actual watch. Great choise by the buyer, whomever it is.

I'm glad you think it's a good choice.

From what I understand there are hundreds of variations of the Polerouter, but I just loved this no-date, black dial combo with those particular hands. It just looked stunning to my eyes and in such good condition. 😍

Very nice watch! I checked it out before going towards GS.

I’m currently waiting on 3 watches well 4 if you count the Rolex I have on order. This is the hardest part! I should receive 2 in between this and next week it’s a vintage GS 4520-8000 Cap gold that will most probably need a resto of the gold plating and a Straum Damascus green, the other two will come next year. Added to this I’m also Waiting for 4 straps!

The waiting is the worst part!

I don't know how you keep your sanity waiting for FOUR watches. I'd loose my mind... and also forget what I'd ordered 😂

It’s not a good choise, it’s a brilliant choise. If I didn’t had the yellow gold bumper variant I’d jumped on your rosegold microtor one. I’m sorry if I ruined your surprise.

Oh nothing really. My grandpa used to think all Germans were anchors. Bit he did fight in the first world war so I suppose he had a point!

You got it 😉

Hi mate, I just received an email from Sergio from Direnzo watches and apparently the new DRZ 04V2 Mondial didn't come with drilled lugs as promised. The manufacturer somehow missed that detail and Sergio has decided it's too late to send them back, so that's how they will be shipped out.

Does yours have drilled lugs?

This detail doesn't worry me, I think it gives the watch case a much smoother appearance overall, but each to their own I guess. It is a great detail for swapping out straps, that's for sure, but with these having an integrated bracelet more or less I don't think it's a great loss.

I reached out to the owner and apparently there's not many of the white ones left, which is the one I prefer, so I'm wondering whether or not to pull the trigger, so I thought I'd ask you for your opinion on the watch and whether it's worth the asking price.

The Direnzo compressor I sold to Deeperblue is a great watch and well worth the asking price, the case, the details are all spot on and the movement runs to cosc spec's, unfortunately I'm just not into compressor watches and so hence the reason I let it go. But the DRZ is more my style being a more sports/ everyday orientated watch.

Anyway I hope your doing well my friend.

I got that email too, my watch is in that batch as well.  The lack of drilled lugs doesn't bug me much given the integrated bracelet.  I don't like rubber straps much so I can see swapping it any time soon.

I've never owned a Direnzo before, so I couldn't speak to the merits of this specific watch.  But I think the cost, given the bill of materials, is fair.  The price range, as given, tends to be where most premium microbrands using Miyotas sit rather than Sellitas (for whatever you think that might be worth, the fact of the matter is that Sellitas cost more than Miyota 9000s).  Even AliExpress watches with Sellitas in them tend to sell for $500 plus these days so Sergio doesn't seem to be really screwing us.

Enough reviewers I trust have vouched for the QC and given that it's a fairly simple three hander, less can simply go wrong.

The one thing that Direnzo has that made me pull the trigger was the fact that they seem to have their own unique design language (unique hour markers and hands, bowl shaped dial, etc.).  I've owned a lot of micros in the past that were basically just mix and matched pieces out of catalogs and they all ended up feeling very samey.  The DRZ04 felt super interesting to me for that reason and given that they had already produced a run before, it felt pretty reasonable to take a shot at it.

I felt the same, given that it has a unique design language and he uses a fairly decent movement the price seems reasonable for what you get. I can vouch for the quality though, having owned the Compressor, I believe he QC's all of his watches personally, which a lot of micro's claim to do, but I very much doubt it. Like yourself I've owned quite a considerable amount of micro brand watches over the years and the value to dollar ratio can be vastly different with almost all of them, until you start heading over the 1K mark, then things get interesting.

CW in a good case in point, not everyone is a fan and I get that, but from the 4 that I've owned they are outstanding value for the dollar, others like Monta apparently are excellent quality but I would be hard pressed paying over 2.5K AUD for a micro brand watch, I'd rather go for a Swiss or German watch for that amount of cash.

Anyway I look forward to getting your perspective on the Direnzo, I have a feeling you won't be disappointed.

I would love to see that UG 😃⌚👍!

I wish I could actually plan a trip to London, it's just not possible at the moment 😃. My wife and I are thinking Spain, France and Italy very soon⌚🍷.
