Weekly photography thread

There are some amazing photographers on WC who can put together some beautifully composed, artistic and well thought out shots. There are also folks, like me, who you would politely say are 'enthusiastic' and 'Try their hardest'.

Here is a fine example of my work. The classic watch/wheel shot:

@hakki501 and I have decided we want to see more of everyone's pictures and wondered if people would be interested in a weekly themed photography thread?

If it's something you would be up for then let me know, and Hakki501 and I will put up the weekly post.

It would be really helpful if you could suggest some themes to get us started. (And yes, I will accept 'dogs pooping #omeganutstyle' as a theme).

(Cover picture obviously not mine and 100% belongs to Hodinkee)

Yes! I love prop shots so some tips there would be appreciated!

This is practically my second job on Instagram! Hehe

I strictly shoot with my phone so nowhere near the quality of real photographers.

Dang, these shots are sizzling hot!! 😮 I am but a youngling/padawan... 😜
Any suggestions for weekly themes, pare? I'm sure you have lots of ideas. @Unholy @Ichibunz and @Pascal I think will also have a good number of great themes to shoot around.

Interested, party of one.

Great idea! Here's a couple of shot from this week's video.

Sounds good to me!

Really, lighting is the key. It doesn't necessarily mean a fancy studio setup. Lately, I've just been using fairly basic lamps - if not natural light. Moving the object around the light space or moving the light and watching how it interacts with the watch/subject in a certain background gives you a lot to explore. It will help create the foundation for the mood while exposure and choices in processing will add the rest.

This was natural light shot on the kitchen table:

I am firmly in the same camp as you. My efforts can be summed up as "bless his little cotton socks the thought was there". I would love to see some competent people's work. Some ideas:

Motoring. That is the brief. Motorbikes, Threewheelers a la del boy, cars, whatever.

Freestyle

Field. Military, camping, etc

Sport

Vintage/"Old school"

Amazing '80s

Film

Sounds like it could be a fun idea.  Except the dogs pooping.  I was hoping we would photograph a different and more enjoyable to view kind of movement.

·

Lovely idea!

Should we do like for starters the most obvious and mostly used theme…”COFFEE!” Just to get started and then we can go crazy later on hahaha!!

Great timing was going to buy new lighting !! Need to get these crystals clear without reflections…
