Looking for reliable watchmaker to repair my Bulova-Accutron

Mom & dad gave me this for my 21st birthday in 1975.  I wore it for 20 years with no problems then one day I, stupidly, wore it to work filling Pepsi vending machines and I snagged the crown on a sharp edge and pulled the stem half way out. Apparently my mistake was immediately pushing the crown back in, as what a local watchmaker told me, he's a very reputable guy and was honest with me that Accutrons was something he wasn't able to fix. I've contacted a couple of watchmaker sites and basically they want $600 to fix it.  Are any of you folks out there knowledgeable about a watchmaker you trust. Trust is my main concern over cost.

No recommendations, but I've got to say that that's a great watch with a lot of memories.
Best of luck with finding a reputable watchmaker to repair your Bulova.

Agreed. I am trying to find a local shop to support for myself, but a watch like that, to your point is not about the money. I have to get my wedding watch serviced and I know I can buy a new old stock for almost the same price as service, but it won't have the memories. One of the rare times I do not let logic prevail when it comes to money.  :-)

Yes, I understand.  Do I pay the big money for the repair or do I leave instructions for my family to put it on my arm and close the coffin at my funeral?  🙄😂😂

So sorry to hear about what happen to your watch. Must be very hard knowing it was a special gift from you parents and a whole lots of memories plus its a very nice special watch. I'm sure someone out there would be able to fix it. You should not give up keep searching look forward to hear your success story. I never had a special gift like that ever given to me but I just can imagine how you feel. And wow I really do miss them ol white label Pepsi that was the real soda! loved all that real sugar especially from the bottle!

Thanks Chad.  Yeah, I was at Pepsi-Bakersfield for 34 years.  I was working in the quality control lab for 6 years and I remember the day we got the call from Pepsi HQ telling us we could stop using invert sugar and start running corn sugar in the formula.  Frustrates me to no end that I didn't buy corn sugar stocks when I new what was going on.

I just wasn't very bright in those days. 😕🤤

I used this guy a few years ago to repair my spaceview.

He gets mixed reviews ( as do most) but he did good by me.

Yes, that’s it, a 1974 model. Thanks so much sir for looking that up. I’ll check with them for repair.

That's something I'd not thought of is a donor movement, thanks. 👍

Right on! just imagine if you brought them stocks. Corn sugar has been here to stay, rule and raine.

There are people that specialize in real Accutron repair, for a reason. I'd search one out and ship it away to one of them that has good reviews and from whom you get a good feeling after brief communication.

You can look up Bennison watch in Palm Beach Florida and give them a call and see if he can service it. I had him do some work on my watches and they are great. Just trying to help 👍
