Calling digital led experts...
I picked up this 1970s LED yesterday. It paid next to nothing as I expected it not to work. It was dead when I got it.
I've cleaned all the contacts and now it's lighting but flickering with random digits when you press the bottom left hand button. Right hand button just give the two dots. Do you think it's fatal or is there more I could do?

Those things are terribly fickle and hard to repair. I have a 70’s bulova that I picked up for about the same. I ended up finding someone out of Pennsylvania, US that repaired it. Took about a year and cost $200 but it runs like new now. You have to really love the watch for the work that is needed with them in my opinion.
