Armitron Rubik

Armitron, in its current incarnation, was founded in 1975 by philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, Eugen Gluck, and is headquartered in Little Neck, NY. Armitron is approximately fifth in watch sales in the U.S. For decades, the privately-held company has offered bold and innovative designs in their quartz and mechanical watches for all walks of life. The Armitron Rubik is a splendid example!

This gleaming, golden Rubik is also easy to wear. Its diameter is 34mm, case height is 9.6mm, lug-to-lug is 39mm, and the bracelet's width is 18mm. Top this all off with a weight of 79 grams.

Features abound in the Rubik. They include hour, minute, seconds, day of week, date, 100 years calendar, chrono with split, alarm with chime, 12/24 hour format, dual time & LCD backlight.

When I want to savor a root beer Popscicle from an ice cream truck on a 70's hot summer day, listen to Bee Gees How Deep is your Love on 8-Track, or play a mind-bending game of electronic Simon with my long-gone friends, I put on my $65.00 Rubik and boogie out the door. I own seven Armitrons, but my Rubik shines just a little brighter than the rest. It takes me back to the protective cacoon of youth, innocence and discovery...when every passing moment seemed magical.

Armitron's rich history shines forth in the Rubik, and I plan on enjoying my golden Rubik for decades to come.

  • Bright easy-to-read display.
  • Excellent finish and polish.
  • All stainless steel.
  • Retro-correct backlight (pretty dim).
  • Acrylic crystal (still proper for the price-point).
  • Alarm is a little quiet (maybe I'm just getting older).

I have that same Griffy -- color and all. I wear it a lot at night because you can see the display from a mountain top at that point.

Love this. I have a strong affinity for my Armitron Durasteel. I’m just surprised it doesn’t get more mentions on the budget watch spectrum.

Yeah, Armitron is so very underrated! They have so many endearing watches. My Allsport below is of the same age and generation of your Durasteel -- I bought it in 2001:
