Show Us Your Guilty Pleasure Watch/Watch Brand...

I had a teenage friend whose house my buddies and I would camp at during the lazy days of Summer and during cold winter weekends. We thought his parents were really cool (our misguided view of adult ignorance), because it didn't get noticed when we stole a shot of whiskey from the wet bar or watched a risqué movie from their vast VHS tape collection. And don't get me started on all of the free junk food found in the generously-stocked pantry! Ahhh...the good old days. As a young person, that was my guilty pleasure. Now as an 'oldish' person, my new guilty pleasure is a good solid Armitron watch! Show us your guilty pleasure watch/watch brand that may keep you sneaking another for your collection.

Mine is vintage Pulsar (Seiko). Its probably my favorite brand oddly lol. Only the vintage late 70's, early 80's before the brand changed the logo slightly

I have some g-shocks..  I love being able to put on a watch and truly not care if I ding it or anything - A watch I can wear working out or working in the yard - without a care in the world

For the price, Invicta makes some good watches; just stay away from the Ed Hardy-esque shit.

Full on! I have four G-Shocks myself and have owned many in the past.

thanks 😊

I feel like I'm going to get booted from the club for this one.  I don't own it yet and frankly can't justify the price but I love it so much.

TAGs. Not the sterile, looks like everything else watches of today. I like the wacky watches from the 90s and 00s. All mine are pawn shop rescues and refinished.

Hey, you said you wanted guilty pleasures.🤷‍♂️😂

I don't think that anyone doubt that the Hublot Classic Fusion 38mm is a beautiful looking watch. I think most Hublot haters take issue with the company's MSRP of $8800.00 for a watch that shares a movement with watches that retail for $1000.00 to $2000.00.

Yeah, I can see that to an extent but not fully...as there are a lot of brands out there (especially emerging) that use 3rd party movements. One in point (the iconic Timex) uses a lot of Miyota. Granted Timex is on a substantially lower price plane, they can be used as an analogy to the Hublot luxury branding.

The G-Shock CasiOak and the Sea-Gull "Sugess" are providing so much bang for the buck that I would have to call them my guilty pleasures.

Good Lord, that Sugess is gorgeous!

That watch is not the reason people hate on Hublot. Just like the Invicta watches I own aren't the reason people hate on Invicta.

Even so, if you like it, it's comfortable & didn't put you in the poorhouse (or dog house with the SO), who cares what others think?

Agreed...

Gorgeous! It looks brand new! This one is from 1991. The strap is not original, but I like it better than the jubilee it came with.

Hah, words to live by. I'm not a value zealot by any means, but when I do buy a watch, there's a nebulous value I assign to it.  Whenever the price I pay is significantly higher than the value I assign, I inevitably get unhappy with the purchase even if I objectively like the watch.

The Classic Fusion, even used, is ridiculously over priced for what it is (a rubber strap watch with an interesting design that I like and a mass market Sellita movement) even by luxury watch standards.

I think this is an apt analogy. Say I like VW Golf GTIs (and I do).  They look great, drive great, and are fun to spin around.  Some snobs might look down on driving a hot hatch when in you can afford something better but you know what who has time for those people?

The Classic Fusion is like a VW Golf GTI, except the price for buying it new is like $80k not $30k.  If I let myself pay those prices, I'd just end up annoying myself because I'd wonder what else I could have bought instead.

Also, having asked my wife about the Hublot she replied "I thought you had better taste than that."

It will remain a guilty pleasure not an actualized one for now.

The wife & I call this phenomenon the "I don't love it $XXXX worth."

And it's a good thing we have wives to talk us out of some of our crazier shit, right? LOL

Yeah, the strap really ties it in! As for the minimal wear on mine, I really attribute it to that nice satin finish on the case and bracelet. Also, the bezel is so rugged. I remember when I bought it the jeweler was telling me it's made out of some carbon composite. Either way...it has withstood grueling death races between Humongous and his cronies and my gasoline hoarding mates!
