Was bored at home so I went to my local AD today to try on some watches. The place is called Moments watches and jewelry 30 mins drive from Toronto, ON
These are what the 2 watches I tried on look like on a 6.25 wrist
First one I tried on was the hype watch that everyone's going nuts about the seiko alpinist. I wasn't really a fan of it before mostly because of the gold coloured indexes and hands. Must admit I liked the feel of it after I put it on and I also really like the secondary crown that rotates the inner bezel. If I could find a different coloured alpinist without the gold on the dial I'd definitely get that one instead.
Second watch I tried on was my first Hamilton as well my first bronze case watch (not sure on the model name on this one not very familiar with Hamiltons at all although i assume its a khaki field bronze) In terms of case dimensions It looked roughly the same as the alpinist. If I was interested in it I would get one with a different coloured dial like a black or white one but the olive dial wasn't too bad. The bronze looked really cool in person too although I'm not a fan of how it oxidizes and looked more worn over time. I'm the kind of guy that likes my watches looking new.
They had other brands at that store as well such as Tissot, Longines, Rado, a very small selection of g shocks and some fashion watch brands that people like us don't care about 😂
Overall I liked the place and will hopefully buy a watch or some straps from there in the future.

Roberto is not wrong, the blue one is great if you can get it at a good price (photo from Ticking Way):
I loved the green and gold Alpinist and regret giving it away, but I fully plan on adding another alpinist in November when this drops:
Minor tip! Bronze smells like oxide… I had the Bronze Black Bay and I hated how it smelled.
I personally don't mind the cyclops. None of the watches I own currently have a cyclops so having at least 1 watch with one would be different

Thanks for letting me know I didn't know that. Then again I'd probably get weird looks from the employees if I was randomly smelling watches 😂

Hahaha it is not that your are going to stink miles away… but… it does smell

Damn those are both nice. Too bad I can't get the blue dial one with the strap from the silver dial one
I like the new Alpinist design. But what spoiled it for me was the Seiko 6R35 movement. I feel this movement was rushed to compete with other watches that are coming out with a 70+ hr power reserve. Regulating the movement when you first bought it is important.
As of late Seiko seems to be using the 6R35 a lot so I guess it's here to stay.

Can easily grab an aftermarket one on etsy for $20-$30. You can even get a completely custom strap for less than $75.

Thanks for the tip I'll look into it

What do you mean by regulating the movement? Never heard of that
The 6R35 seems pretty smooth compared to the outdated 4R36 in my 1st gen monster. Didn't ask about the power reserve when I was there but I assume its more than the 41 hours I get from my monsters 4R36
I know it’s not for you, but I’m interested in that Hamilton, it looks very brown, especially for a new watch. I’m just curious because it looks so dark and uniform. For comparison, I’ve been wearing my bronze Oris a couple days a week for like 6 months now and it looks like this

Would love to get one of those Rock Face Alpinist myself. 😉

Most watches are factory regulated within the parameters that they are advertised. Eg a watch gains -2/+2 seconds per day etc. If your watches feel like there are outside of the specs, or you feel that you're not happy with the amount of time that they gain or lose, they can be regulated / adjusted by the AD. Below is from a Seiko SPB143

I would wager a bet that that Hamilton is actually the PVD Earth model. It looks exactly like the one I have. The new Bronze Khaki should be brighter if new at the AD.
Love that Oris!

Oh ok make sense thanks for the clarification

Wow that oris looks sweet! The dial and the handset looks extremely similar to the alpinist's dial and handset

They come in steel as well
$2,000 from Oris, but they're on Chrono24 starting at $1,268 new and unworn.

Damn those are nice. Love the grey dial one
