Well, call the authorities – I have officially lost my mind. New AD request placed…

After waiting two years for a Sub Date, and getting it a few weeks ago, I thought “That was fun, let’s try again!”

The object of my desires this time around is the BLNR aka the “Batman/Batgirl”. While the AD didn’t specifically write “LOL!” in her email reply to me, somehow that seemed to be the vibe of the email. “A lot of patience will be required”, and “We don’t have a timeframe for the GMT-Master II”. They didn’t have one for the Sub either so I figured as much.

But I don’t mind waiting for a couple of reasons:

#1 it’s flippin expensive and I need a little time to reboot the slush fund after it was pillaged by the Sub purchase. #2 The HUNT, baby. If you get whatever you want right when you want, what’s the fun in that? Rich people can do this and just point and buy and it’s meh. It’s too normal, there is no anticipation when doing that. I’m not saying that I’ll refuse the watch if they call tomorrow (I won’t), but it doesn’t hurt to wait a bit. Good things, and all that. The chase is part of the fun - at least to me it is.

So why do I want this watch? GMTs are admittedly useless to me, I know this, and the watch is also mainly black… it’s like a Sub Date with a dash of color and a different bracelet. But the thing is… my eyes love it, they just do. Does it makes sense? Heck no. But looking at it in pics and trying it on a couple of times, it’s truly a WOW type of watch for me and something I would categorize as a grail in the sense that it’s a bit of a stretch to go for as a watch purchase, it’s hard to get, and it would be an “end game” sort of piece for me (if those exist). It’s attainable even if not right now. IMO, having a grail that you won’t ever be able to or willing to buy is a little bit pointless. I admire the Patek 5960 Annual Calendar Chrono as my ultimate piece, as well as something like the Credor Eichi II but spending $50k+ on a watch is a bridge way too far for me unless I became a lottery winner. Even so, I can’t wrap my mind around that price for a watch. So the BLNR is it.

The wait has begun… 👍

Very good - and necessary - mindset when you're after certain pieces. For me that's not the hunt, though. It's the I'm sizing you up and down and I'll decide if you ever get one. One simply puts a request made easy by a previous sizeable purchase and waits. Then some more.

Ive chased a watch before, it was more than just putting my name on an excel sheet.

But that's an amazing piece worth waiting for, that's for sure.

I’m in the same boat awaiting a BLRO..let’s hope our phones get busy sooner rather than later.

I am considering getting back on a the list after I just received my Explorer about 2 months ago. The only thing stopping me is that I might get the call sooner than I'd like. I want a DJ and those seem to be coming in more frequently these days. Last thing I want to do is pass if I'm not financially ready.

I rarely actually use my GMT for its intended purpose, I just enjoy it very much, it looks nice and I like that.

So, go for it.

Not a Rolex but it is a Batgirl .

Congrats on the Sub! - but another almost identical looking Rolex? Rolex be boring IMHO

I live in the money laundering capital of the world and regular working people do not everget calls from ADs in this city. Let alone be allowed on a waiting list. So I tend to be darker in my opinion of Rolex ADs.

Anyway - just wanted to remind you can get into Credor for about 2k and up! Very nice examples at 5k. Just my 0.02!

Love it, buy what makes your heart sing...but be careful. After a couple Rolex buys you'll be looking at your collection and making trades in your mind. Those "unobtainable grails" start looking more reasonable.

Yeah you’re right. We always make deals in our heads and justify “the next thing”.
