I too am incredibly vain. Unfortunately, I tend to own less popular models ofpopular brands. YouTube sadly does little for my ego.
I Watch reviews on watches I own and watches I'm interested in. Also watches I have no interest in.
I always do this with significant purchases. The worst is when I watch reviews during the period when I’m waiting for the arrival of the new watch/car/whatever that I ordered. It’s all second guessing. Watching the same reviews after I’ve received the item is always affirming.

I think the Mako II is probably the most talked about watch I own... I can find maybe 1 or 2 reviews on my other watches.
It helps to understand if the review has a similar perspective to yours.
It's also a consumer behavior thing. Positive reviews help us deal with post purchase dissonance
