No one has talk about the Certina DS +

A few months ago, I saw on Horas y Minutos (one of the referent sites for watch launches in spanish language) the new Certina DS+. At first, It seemed ridiculous for me. A detachable watch with different cases? It couldn´t work.

Weeks passed by and I started to see it at malls and shops. When I approached to see the watch, I still didn´t like it. How can a watch enthusiast like a frankenstein watch when on the average collection we already have different types of watches?

Finally, yesterday I saw a review and now I think it might work. If you think about it, it has a decent swiss powermatic 80 with a couple of different cases for about 1000€. It has some failures such as the bracelet, which can´t fit the case because it has a generic final link. Overall I find it a good option for travellers or people with no money to spend on a second quality watch.

The watch comes with two cases depending of the version you choose. For me the best ones are the diver and the Genta inspired ones.

The Certina DS+ isn´t getting any cover and I would like you to share your thoughts and opinions about it.

It's a cool idea, but to me it seems like it creates an unnecessarily bulky case, and significantly increases the risk of loss/damage. I'd constantly be paranoid about the retaining mechanism failing, and having the mechanical bits fall out.

I love (like really really) the idea but not the realization. Well the dial is pretty OK to me (date at 6, indices and not too much writing), but the cases are ugly to me. I know there obviously are some technical limitation that causes these big and brutal pieces of metal. So not for me, not now. But in the future, with a V2, why not !

I like how both crowns lock the movement. Too much bulk as other have said, and only one 'caseset' interests me.

I agree 100% with you. They need to make some urgent upgrades in order to sell them. Starting with the cases, maybe more originality. Actual ones are prety dull. Then the dials, the design is OK but maybe more colour variations and textures. The bracelet and the lack of customization are a problem too.

As far as I´ve seen the mechanism of retention seems good. There´s an extra crown that pushes the case into place. The only real problem with that is having two crowns, that might be too bulky.

Certina is entry level Swiss and decent value for the money. However they suck at marketing those.

Let me get this straight: I buy once and have all these options? That's no feature, I love buying more watches, I certainly don't want to buy something that makes me buy fewer. 😂

I don´t think it´s an option for purist or watch enthusiast. It´s more orientated to a general public or people who doesn´t want to have too many watches. I wouldn´t mind to have one (If they upgrade it) as I live between two cities and don´t want to expose all my watches to the risks of travelling. As you, I love buying more pieces but I understand the funtionality of the DS+ in some cases.

I'd like to see one in person, but here in the US that isn't going to happen. That's probably why you're not seeing a lot of English-language coverage. I love the Certinas in my home (my wife's DS-1 and my vintage Argonaut) but they were bought sight unseen. Not as willing to do that with something as experimental as this.
