Dive bezels - more than a 1 trick pony?

Today I met up with fellow Cruncher @Matt84 in a cafe on the Shore of Leith, Edinburgh. We chatted all things watches, travelling & diving. It's always a great experience meeting a fellow watch lover and to share what we're working on at Clemence Watches, Matt was certainly no exception 🍻; thanks for making the effort Matt, it was great to meet you and to show you the Photic Diver in the metal during your flying visit to Edinburgh!

Something Matt and I chatted about was how we actually use dive bezels during our everyday lives! Although we're both certified divers, neither of us are fortunate enough to break out the mask & fins on a regular basis. So begs the question, what do we use our dive bezels for?

Not wanting to put Matt into proverbial hot water, I'll share how I use mine 😄.

Here's a snap from last weekend when I was timing my ascent and decent timing of a local Munro (my legs have just recovered 😅), a few weeks back I used it to track slack tide while kayaking in a tidal Loch, most days though I use it as a tool for pretty ordinary tasks like brewing tea or cooking pasta!

Our chat got me wondering, how do you guys use yours? Any novel ideas or applications? Game changing life hacks? Or keeping the everyday in check?

Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom thanks for showing me the watches and talki me through them. I’m not concerned if people know I use my rotating bezels as a fidget spinner and only dive with a dive computer.

Looking forward to seeing that digital booth and ordering that watch. 👍

Thanks @Matt84, really appreciate it! Hope you enjoy your weekend with friends & family!

I used mine to time breaks at work. That and for brewing coffee at home

·

I time all sorts of stuff, but have occasionally used it as a compass based on compass bezel principles (northern hemisphere - point hour hand at sun direction and spin bezel to put "30" halfway between hour hand and 12 - the triangle(pip) of bezel will indicate North).

A buddy uses his bi-directional GMT bezel to count drinks when we are at the brewery.

I use mine to time cooking, or other mundane tasks like laundry.

I can't swim more than to save myself if I fall in the drink, so I'll never dive with mine.

@AFChris these are brilliant applications!! Not sure which one I love more, certainly never thought of using it as a drinks counter - genius!

That's brilliant!

"Dude, is this is my 2nd pint of ale? Or is it my 3rd."

"Dunno. Check the drink counter in your wrist. Looks like it's....your 4th. Give me keys..."

We ride our bikes to the brewery, so I usually have an Apple watch (so no drink counting on my watch)... we'll mess with him and bump his watch to up his drink total occasionally when we want to get back on the road.

Love it! Keep them coming @AFChris - you've certainly one best use of a dive bezel this evening! Cheers to you 🍻😅

I have not used it since I bought the watch.  I just check to make certain that is pointing perfectly at the 12 beneath it.

·

Use my bezel as a second time zone indicator. Turn the 12 pip to the other zone’s 12 o’clock, and the read the hour hand against the bezel. Takes a moment to get used to, but not hard to read after that. Prefer it to a dedicated GMT.

One of my job tasks is working with unexploded ordinance. I use the bezel on my fxd(countdown) to time safe distance vs time allowance once disturbed. Meaning you have x time to be at a safe distance and once there x time before the range is safe.

Wow @Proctor1911 that's an amazing application!

Thank you sir. It ties in to my pet peeve and why I can not have a watch run slow.lol

100% of the time I use mine to track a second timezone. I don’t think to time things with it, always using my smart speaker or phone for that. Instead I just like the second timezone at a glance. It also helps that I have a bi-directional bezel, and that’s actually become a sort of requirement for watches I pick up usually if they have a bezel.
