The People's Watch

It's been a while since any of my HMT watches have been out and on wrist, so today I decided that it was a good day for my Kanchan automatic to take a few laps. (I'll be adding it to today's WRUW. I wish I could figure out how to post multiple pics at once as I've seen others do there.)

I love these watches for their simplicity, reliability and ruggedness, even when it comes to their dressier pieces. The story of this company is also very interesting and the masses of people to whom they made reliable personal timekeeping available, with their huge production numbers and reasonable prices, is simply astounding.

Such a great, simple and reliable timepiece that looks stunning with its classic case shape and soft gold sunburst dial. It often reminds me of vintage metaloceramic cushion cased Rados, and is always pleasing to look at, IMHO. I've got a good number of HMTs in my collection, and they are all excellent timepieces.

I am always surprised to see the how the upward trend in watch sizes makes so many of my older pieces appear small and dainty. Beside my Steeldive, my Kanchan seems almost like a child's watch! It often takes less than a minute to completely forget that I'm even wearing it after switching from one of my larger, more contemporary watches.

I included the shot that Princess Pearl is in because she's always interested when I'm doing things with my watches. It's just one more thing that I get to 'do' together with my furry best friend, and that's cool with me 😏😎
