Say hello to Daphne, everyone!

I've got a thing for CuSn8 bronze as a watch making or accessorizing material. I also have a stainless Seiko tuna can diver homage that I love. When I saw this bronze San Martin, and saw that it was on sale for less than $165 Canadian, I pulled the trigger.

The purple strap is not San Martin original, but the matching, signed bronze buckle and tang are. I swapped them from the original leather, which is actually too nice for daily wear.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never understood the tuna. It just strikes me as unnecessarily bulky.

But man, when you make a watch out of bronze, it immediately gets like 400 coolness points. What a beautiful metal.

As a child of the 70's, I knew EXACTLY what reference you were making before I even opened the post.

Not everyone cares for a large watch head, so I get where you're coming from about it's size and heft. I love the feel of a solid watch myself, and I kayak and sail regularly. Lots of time in the water and I love my divers' watches, too. I already have a stainless tuna that I love, and when I saw the same case design in bronze, I HAD to have one. You're right, it's at least a 400 point increase in coolness whenever any design is offered in this metal!

It is, indeed. I found this one on AliExpress. We call him Spaceman Steve around here and he helps me display my collection on a rotating basis. 🤘😎
