Very true! I’d further clarify that in addition to the lug width, a strap monster must be stainless steel with a black face and white or steel indices and hands, and must be thin enough that a NATO won’t make it sit high on the wrist. This allows the strap to be all color ways and materials.
To me, a watch that is a strap monster is a watch that has a common lug width like 20mm, but also wears comfortably and looks good on a wide variety of straps. The Bulova Lunar Pilot has 20mm lugs, but it cannot fit on a variety of straps. It looks awkward on many straps and will sit too high on the wrist on any true nato straps because of its flat case shape and long lug-to-lug dimension.
Contrast that with the new Islander Rangemaster which will fit, wear comfortably, and look good on a wide variety of straps/bracelets.
probably what they meant is the watch looks good on most type of strap
This and in addition, not every colorway looks good with other colors. Black and white watches lend themselves nicely to just about any color, whereas others may not.
Now I love this watch but it’s another example of a watch that for me isn’t a strap monster.
Granted it’s got a 21mm lug width but even if it was 20 or 22 it’s just too chunky. Luckily I have the standard rubber strap and steel bracelet but you’ve got to go with the made for band here a standard straight end strap just wouldn’t work.
If you can think up a band that would look silly with said watch, it fails.
The prime example may be the Timex Weekender. Put it on a lizard strap, a polka dot or plaid one, any NATO or bund strap or anything you can think of and it works.
I have no idea what point @watchme1 is trying to make unless possibly the photos got mixed up?

I’m not sure what part of my post was so difficult to understand but I will explain it anyway. The OP asked “what the hell is a strap monster?”
I posted a pic of a speedmaster which we all know looks great with any strap. Ergo strap monster.
I posted a pic of a Nomos on a nato strap which looks foolish. Ergo not a strap monster.
The post has three bull’s-eyes and one LMAO so far, so I gather it is not altogether that difficult to understand.
