Are you worried about fakes?

I've heard some fakes are very hard to catch. So even ignoring the insane used prices, wouldn't that push you to purchase only from authorized dealers?

Personally I can't imagine spending that much money and not knowing if I'm getting a fake. ☹️

Lucky for me I love $150 watches so it's less of a concern. Still if it's a popular model I'll only get it from a reputable store.

I would only buy through a reputable dealer, whether that be an AD or otherwise. I’m not good enough to tell the difference.

Never, only buy high end pieces via AD or established grey. In addition, it is not that hard to spot a fake once in hand. The best “fake vs. real” videos always say, once you engage with it, the comparison stops. Crown action, bezel, and bracelet build are always dead giveaways and that is before any visual inspections, which are admittedly getting tougher from the vids I have seen.

I would be extremely worried about fakes if I bought high end watches. I'll buy an homage from just about any reasonable source, but anything higher and I rely on an AD or trusted grey market dealer such as Jomashop. Earlier this year I purchased a new old stock Orient Sea King circa 1970s and later learned that many reproduction parts are available on the market to assemble these watches. It's not really valuable but I still need to know. I'm still trying to authenticate it.

It definitely helps if you’ve handled the genuine article. Seen a few good fakes in BKK but for sale in the $1000 range for a fake Rolex and Pateks . So to my mind …. Pass ……
