Mission to the Caves

Paired the CW Sealander GMT with a Haveston IVA NATO strap. Adds a more ’tool-ish’ vibe to the the watch - caving and space exploration or ‘Spatium Terra’, if you will!

Have a fun weekend everyone

Possibly the best watch/NATO combo I've seen. 👏 I keep coming back to Christopher Ward, and this model in particular. There always seems to be another watch I want more at the moment so I never quite get to the point of pulling the trigger, but I do think there will be one in my watch collecting future at some point.

Love Christopher Ward trademark unique trident hands 👍

@Deeperblue Thanks - very nice of you to say so. They are very nice and humble folks down there at CW - I’ve always had excellent service there. Apologies for the slight detour to your goal 😉

@OrangEdan I think its a nice detail, personally. Adds another point of difference to the view that’s it’s ‘just another Explorer II’ homage.

I don't see it as Explorer homage... Just because it has the outer GMT bezel... Far from it. Actually it look better and cooler than Explorer 👍

I can see certain design cues but a good watch is a good watch is a watch…imo

Detours make the journey exciting 😁

That's is an absolute beauty and that strap pairing is perfection. I had the black dial C65 GMT a while back but eventually moved it on, that was a handsome watch.

In the world of watches today many designs are inspired from one another. Breitling too with their new premier lines... And Even Glasshutte.

·

This looks even better than a Rolex Explorer II.

Date Window at 6 makes the dial symmetric, and the Hourhand looks better than that fat thing on the Explorer II.

Oh, that’s fantastic. I have the C63 Automatic (not the GMT) in white, currently the nicest watch I own by far (… stay tuned …) but that strap combination is fantastic. Love what CW does.

As an aside, I never quite understood the comparisons to the Rolex Explorer. I might be losing my eyesight, but the circular pip indicators on the Explorer II look nothing like the baton indices on the C63. If anything, my non-GMT C63 bears more resemblance to an Oyster Perpetual than an Explorer. This has always perplexed me.

@coffeemike Thanks - try the strap on yours! CW just makes good watches imo.

The Sealander Auto has less of the Explorer II (shared) design cues than the Sealander GMT (orange hand, fixed GMT bezel, ice white dial) - the Polar one, anyway. The Auto has always reminded me more of the Aqua Terra: size, black surrounds around the (lumed) hands/indices, date at six. Naysayers will use the homage thing to bash a watch. Some people never ask the most basic question of all: is it any good? They will question a watch’s credentials having never experienced it. Personally, if there’s a watch/brand I don’t like - I will just say that it’s ‘not for me’. I’m not the target audience. Wasn’t made with me in mind. That’s it. Very simple. No harm, no foul.

I think the three hander looks more like an Omega AT and a Globemaster had a baby.

I'd call it a true homage or tribute. Others are basically design copies thus not really true homages.
