AnOrdain Questions

I met AnOrdain at the WatchPro Salon today. I’d already secured a build slot but had a few questions. I‘m pretty sure I’m going with a fume dial. Pre-meeting, the preference was: plum, blue, grey, green. After seeing them in person: the new order is grey, plum, blue, green. Just to be clear: they are all good imo.

Here’s a list of things I enquired about:

Do we get to pick from every watch in the catalogue when your build slot is due?

yes.

What customisation options are available?

Movement (Sellita SW210 or LJP G100). Strap/bracelet choice. Laser etching on caseback - they’re also considering the possibility of exhibition casebacks.

The fume dial currently only comes in 38mm - will other sizes be available?

In 35mm (which is great for me personally btw!) probably yes. The 41mm will probably not - due to warping in the firing process.

What other models are on the horizon?

I was shown the Model 3. Anyone who is signed up to the newsletter will have seen a preview. I can only describe it as an AnOrdain x Grand Seiko x Nomos. With Mr Jones  Watches’ lugs.

On a separate note, the 35mm Model 1 surprised me with its size - it fit nicely on my 6.25” wrist (very thin bezel, all dial). There’s no movement option with that size

Thanks for the information. Great photos! anOrdain should bring in wrist shots from customers or social media - the photos on the site look so different and don’t do the fumé justice

You’re right. I think the dial can look so different depending on the ambient lighting conditions. I’m looking at the green dial photo now and dont recall it looking like that. In person the green and blue were a lot more ‘sparkly’.
That’s a great idea about the customer photos - perfect for something like their IG account

Oh wow, so there really is no alternative to viewing them in person 👍

I don’t know what the answer to that is. They’re online only and appear at the odd watch show/fair/exhibition here and there. Perhaps the customer photos may be the only way to go.

It’s just the fumes btw. The ‘regular’ Model 1s and Model 2s appeared the same to my eyes

I am jealous!  What a great opportunity and Fume all the way.

·

I absolutely love mine, but if I were buying a fume dial today, the purple would be it.  It is absolutely amazing in person.

·

I love my green dial...but to be honest I want them all!!

The dials are amazing and the work is superb.

This is the right approach.  :-)

I am extremely fortunate to see and have the opportunity handle them. Not because of retail or marketing but because they are artisanal items, that are (relatively) rare and difficult to produce.

The Parisian Blue still makes me gasp every time I see it but the Fume dials are just ’showstoppers’ imo

I can imagine! Which one did you go for?

What was the experience like? Was it all done over email and did you request anything ‘special’?

·

The green or blue for me 😍

Will they be there on the 3rd? 🤔

Looks really good on you!

How long did you end up waiting for it?

No such thing as a wrong choice imo with these!

Its the same company (WatchPro) organising the pop up. They weren’t on the list of exhibitors (but the list hasn’t changed from when they announced it - more may have been added).
I’m assuming the exhibitors will have something to sell (being so close to Christmas), I can’t imagine AnOrdain will have anything to sell as the waitlists are currently closed, as they clear the backlog

I was early on the An0rdain train, so I have a model one Post Office Red.  I was going to engrave the back with a map, which they used to offer, though not sure these days, but kept it simple.

It is a striking watch. My only complaint is the crown is really small and if you do not have nails, it can be a pain to pull out, but other than that, all good.

You bagged it for a (frankly) ridiculous price!

I’m not sure if they updated the crown on the refresh? Which strap did you pair it with?

I like them all, but the grey with the blue hue gets my vote - that is gorgeous!!

Image

It jumped up on my list! I always thought it was a dull grey but in person, I agree with you, there’s definitely a lovely blue hue there. I really liked the colour with that effect. IMO it doesn’t show off the fume effect as well as the others but that didn’t stop it from being stunning in the slightest!

·

Thanks for all those details! My wife and I are on the waiting list for quite a few months already, and we were thinking in the blue and the plum, but I really think the grey one might be a bettre choice than the blue (haven’t seen them in person though). Very nice pictures as well.

·

Really stunning watches. Their fumé dials are stunning, and those photos are a great sign of what's to come.

Thanks and you’re welcome.

You managed to sneak onto the list before they closed it?!  Would you both be happy with the 38mm size (looks like the Model 1 fumes will be offered in 35mm this year).

To my eye the green and blue are the most striking. They really sparkle from afar. The plum and grey are little more subtle. I know that AnOrdain have exhibited in the UK and the US - may have to check or email them to see if they’re in your part of the world - just to see them in person

I had never seen the 35mm sizes (in the metal) prior to yesterday. I am tempted. Maybe not with the fume but the ‘regular’ (I feel awful describing it as that) enamel dials - did tend to give off a more traditional feel. Also it would make a great piece to hand down to my daughter when the time is right.

On the subject of waitlists, I dont mind waiting with a microbrand or an independent but I very seldom do it with a retailer selling ‘big brand’ watches. Its probably my perception of ‘trust’ in trying to manipulate a market. I’m not saying they definitely do it and the microbrands dont, just how I see it in my head

Thats my view, although not seen in the flesh, whilst the fume looks stunning it’s the “regular” that really appeals to me. The Japanese Oxblood is definitely striking, and so it’s the one that always springs to mind if I think of anOrdain.

Perhaps I’ll get on the list when it reopens, 30 months is not that bad… 😂

·

That grey is Incredible

·

Thanks. Were you on the list when it was closed?
They did say it’ll take a few months to get to everyone. Sounds like you may be looking at 2025 by the sounds of it. Give you a bit of time to save up (they did also mention not to charge over 5% on the price increases to anyone already on the list)

·

Well hopefully the downpayment reduced the list significantly (not everyone is willing to wait) and once all the slots have been assigned, there will be free slots nearer to your desired date.

Haha, it’s very nice that they are valued so highly (on Chrono24) but as with all prices on there - its not an indication of what they actually sell for. I can understand people selling any watch when they receive it and dont like it - especially when its difficult to see them in person

·

How was the model 3 vs model 2 (fume)?

Do you have any photos of model 3?

I have already secured a slot for Q1 2023 and I am curious about model 3.

·

I didnt see the Model 2 fume. 3 was nice (as I tried to describe it above). Personally I dont think you can go wrong with fume’s. Not long to wait at all for you!

·

No sorry - I got the impression that we weren’t ’allowed’ to

·

You're photo's are fantastic. Thanks for these, but you've really thrown me now! I pushed out the build slot as I'm keen to see the Model 3, but I'm also at a loss of which variant to pick-up. Great problem to have I know, but it's very frustrating as I have nowhere to see them in person - maybe a flight to Glasgow is on the cards!

Thanks for the post.

Thank You - very kind.

If your build slot is far enough away, there remains the possibility of AnOrdain returning to the WatchPro Salon event again this year (or maybe another show). I’m sure once the Model 3 is announced, they’ll want to get in front of the public. I’m also in between variants: even though the 38mm fits fine, I’m considering the 35mm (as something I’ll pass down to my daughter). I already have a Longines in 35mm which already fits great

You and I have a similar thought process. I was thinking of leaving whichever one I choose to my daughter. I went for the baby blue Bel Canto with her in mind, too. I love the blue fume but I have a few blue dialled watches. I love the plum but don't foresee it getting enough wear! Ridiculous first world problems 🤣
