I own a Cartier Solarbeat - so essentially a quartz movement. That said, not sure I’d buy a quartz watch from the other brands you mentioned.

Agree the only time I’d wear quartz is Cartier. Maybe it’s because I view that more as a statement piece than just a watch.
The others are watchmakers through and through so I want a proper high-end watch inside and out.

So vote 1 :)

C. All of the Above

Cartier Solarbeat +1. you have Junghans Solar with capacitor and it’s a red dot winner. You have highly precise GS 9F movement with all capabilities of GS. Also, Accutron. They are huge for now, but if you have a larger wrist...

So the short answer is yes

I would totally prefer quartz for so many reasons. I might start listing them later.

·

I would buy a quartz watch from a manufacturer that puts the appropriate emphasis on quartz watches. It doesn't matter to me whether the watch is Swiss or not, it's a question of the brand and the movement used.

·

Like @bevelwerks, I would own and wear the Cartier Tank quartz and like @Edge168n, I’ll likely get one for my wife.

Deep down I‘m a fancy girl who needs fancy thing to be happy and usually favor mechanical movements, Spring Drive notwithstanding. GS has some beautiful quartz GMTs but other than those, if I bought any quartz watch, it would have to be the amazing and unique design (Cartier, GS, Sinn EZM) to win me over.

I’m a princess, I‘ll wear the shiniest watch in the whole store, bugger the movement.

Also, consider the movement. An Aerospace EVO with the Breitling 79 thermocompensated SuperQuartz, it’s not cheap.

I'd buy a fancy Swiss quartz watch if the Swiss would stop half assing their quartz offerings. Seiko/Grand Seiko, Citizen, and Casio (Oceanus) have them roundly beat with any of the following: extreme independent accuracy, solar charging, perpetual calendar, jumping local hour hand, radio/GPS time sync, etc.

The best Swiss competitors are the Cartier Solarbeat and a few Breitlings. I understand that the Swiss brands hitched their horse to the mechanical-watch-as-a-luxury-item marketing pitch and are loath to change direction, but quartz took over the market for a reason, and there's merit in offering high end quartz models to the luxury market. I'd love to see a return of the Rolex Oysterquartz (in a more modern case design) and other Swiss brands offering solar HAQ options.

You have stated my sentiments pretty much :)

Exactly though I would add the Longines VHPs to the Swiss list. Here is Jack Forster's article about the VHP that includes a discussion of other high end quartz movements.

What about the Grand Seiko 9F quartz?
At this point in my collecting, I'd be much more interested in high end quartz (Rolex Oysterquartz or Omega quartz seamster pro, etc)

I have a both a 9F Grand Seiko and a Cartier tank and wear the heck out of both of them.

I'm pretty sure the VHP is dead, though you're right that new ones are probably still out there.

What, they discontinued it again?  They just re-continued it.

Oh, they did? That's exciting. I heard that it was discontinued 6 months - 1 year ago, but that's great that it isn't really gone!

No I meant in 2017 (time flies when you're old).  Crap, I think you're right.  I went to the Longines official site and see nothing about VHP watches anymore.  😢

You preaching to the choir :)

Another 9F GS and Cartier Tank Solarbeat owner here (not to mention  serveral vintage pieces from Rolex, Omega etc.) - I prefer them.
