Who else is a fan of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf reissues?

So I have to admit I have a fascination for the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf reissues.

There is just something compelling about the mid-century design and all the playful color combinations.

Yes - I know I have way too many of them and that they are not the highest grade in terms of quality...but I just can't resist them.

So what do you think of the Zodiac SSW reissues and which ones do you have in your collection?

O yeah!! If there was ever a model that needed to be collected....

·

The Zodiac collection is rather eye catching. I'm drawn to this one

think it's rather cool. Love the colour combo. Only thing holding me back (0ther than the million of watches on the list) is that i read somewhere reliability and brand customer care is bad. maybe you know better on this @ChronoGuy

I try to purchase from reliable vendors like HODINKEE who will make sure to take care of me. I had an issue with one of the Zodiacs I purchased from them. They immediately sent a replacement and sent me a pre-paid label to return the defective watch.

I have a few over ten in the collection and have only had that one issue so maybe a 10% defect rate - which would be really high.

You can also find deals on Zodiacs from gray market dealers and eBay but you are taking a risk in those channels.

thanks for this. i Might take the plunge on this one for the colours. i needs a bit of wild in the collection.

in my eyes they have the vintage vibe also. which always a good thing

Sweet collection…you got the whole wolf pack! I’ve never pulled the trigger on one myself, but the watermelon and orange sherbet versions have always made me come close. That baby blue one is also really nice! Only hesitation on my part has been the super fun colorways makes it too limiting in terms of versatility for me to justify splurging on.

·

The orange and grey one - that's the watches.com x #zodiac collaboration model right? Is it real meteorite in the dial, or is it just the name of the colorway?

·

I haven’t got any but black one is nice.😏

·

I am glad that this brand got resurrected. It will take time to get their QC issues under control since that has never been a concentration for their parent group. The bright colors, retro styling, and reasonable size make them a great option and one that I will buy eventually. I have a soft spot for historical Zodiac because my father wore one for years. I can understand not wanting to be limited to just one, but then you are the opposite of the 3, 7, or 10 watch collector. The hardest choice for me would be to decide between the Super Sea Wolf 53 in traditional black or something cool like the watermelon.

It's real meteorite in the dial. Love the matte DLC treatment on case and bracelet as well.

·

I love the design.  I have one.  I do feel that they are a little overpriced when you compared them to similar offerings from Squale or Chris Ward…. But they are cool

That purple tropic and the reference with the orange and white dial are both absolutely stellar 😍

I've had no issues with mine,I've put a couple of pics of mine on this page

·

Holy sh*t, are those all yours?

I think they look great, I’d be happy to own any one of them. I’m wondering what you mean when you say they aren’t of the highest grade?  Are there actual issues, or they just don’t have impressive movements?

Looks amazing. Are the dial colours as vibrant in real life ? It really pops for me

·

looks great think i will add this one 👌

Thanks! Make sure to post a wrist shot if you decide to pick one up.

Also, consider picking up the orange Tropic rubber strap - I did and it looks fantastic on the watch as well as the cool DLC gray bracelet.

Great story about your father - how cool was he to be wearing a Zodiac - that is awesome. Do you still have the watch? Any pictures to share?

Deciding on which color is I think why I have so many - I just started with the HODINKEE x Zodiac collab on the vintage blue dial so that I could have a representative classic dive watch in the collection. Then I became consumed with all the color variations - watermelon, orange sherbet, the purple Liberty collab, the lime green, etc.

You are right in that the size and build really accommodates most wrists.

My one overall complaint is the pin/collar system on the bracelets which is a real pain in the a$$ when sizing the bracelet.

He gave this Hermetic to me a while back. This is how I received it, with a Speidel expandable band. I have since moved it on to leather. I think that it sat in a drawer at his work bench (not for watches, mostly woodworking). The crystal was so scuffed that you could not read the time.

Vintage Zodiac information is difficult to get on the internet without a subscription to a very specific website. I put this one in the 1960's.

Thanks for sharing the wrist shot.

That's so cool - have not seen that Zodiac reference previously! Love those old Speidel bands. I found a seller on eBay who has NOS Speidel bands and picked up a few.

My dad passed in 2020 during Covid and I have a few of his watches - nothing as cool as the Zodiac, but he did have a nice Waltham pocket watch that my grandfather used to wear. I let my nephew have the vintage Hamilton Pulsar as he was enamoured with it and is a budding vintage watch collector now with a keen interest in mid-century and a love for Hamiltons.

Many thanks for the kind words.

I can attest that the meteorite is even better "in the metal" than in my crude photos. If you pick one up, make sure to add the orange Tropic rubber strap to pair it with.

The good thing is that the bracelet has quick-release spring bars so changing straps will be a piece of cake.

Awesome, I bought my Boldr meteorite watch a week before Zodiac announced theirs so I missed my chance haha

·

Thanks!

Great collection! I picked up their two tone GMT a few months ago and am a big fan. The styling is spot on for a retro reissue and I've had no QC issues. Zodiac is an enthusiast brand and, at this price, I'd like to see them focus on some features that would go along way to satisfying the enthusiast crowd: quick release spring bar mechanical, screwed links as opposed to a pin and collar system, and on the fly microadjustments.

The good news is at least on the Watches.com collab they did the quick-release for the bracelet.

I agree screwed links would be so much better than the Satanic pin and collar system they use... almost as Devilish as Seiko.

Micro-adjustment should be on every bracelet at this point. Although, the elastic at the butterfly clasp is a pretty good cheap substitute.

Thanks! Appreciate the kind words.

I initially hesitated on the purple Liberty edition, but when I saw it on the purple Tropic strap that sold me. It's the only purple watch in the collection.

love it mate! Bought this for a friend earlier this year… was VERY tough to let it go 💜💜💜

My Ssw Pro Ti has some serious lume

·

I've owned three. Great watches but I wish the movement could be a little better.  I also wish they would introduce some new models and not make the same model in different color ways.

Wouldn't it be cool if they reissued some of these...

So many great colorways!!  I could go nuts collecting various models of zodiac.

I love my SSW aquadream.  Sick accuracy and sparkley goodness.

Absolutely. I agree.

I'd totally get one if I had the cash.

·

I have yet to add a Super Sea Wolf to my collection and I plan on adding one (eventually) I do love the design & historical significance of the watch.  I’d go for a simpler dial / bezel combination but I do understand the appeal of a bright colored sea wolf
