Honoring your favorite sports team or other interest on a watch?

So what's the consensus from the brain trust of this august assembly of horological oracles.

Is it OK to sport (pun intended) watches on your wrist that advertise your favorite sporting team?

Or better yet - your favorite superhero characters?

Or maybe something quirky and fun like "Dia de Los Muertos"?

What say you all?

While not for me from a collecting perspective, people should wear what they like. That said, I will take a 40th Snoopy all day long.

·

I was tempted to get the NY Knicks tissot but not anymore plus my team is really not doing great lol…I’ll go as far as maybe team colors like this…

and my modded “Astro Boy” watch falls under quirky I guess…

Of course it is OK. Everyone is their own. For me, no. I’m not a fan of logo and branding. I avoid clothes with them too if I can. Big exception is team branded clothes at the arena if it is game day.

·

I don’t currently own any, but I don’t mind some themed watches. The DDLM theme is awesome.

There are niche brands like Konstantin who charge a lot of money for themed watches and they sell out almost immediately. Someone is buying.. right?

Yes absolutely.

·

Tag have done a Manchester United version (my team), and it stinks. Shame, cos I like and own a couple of Tags.

Hublot have done a Depeche Mode (favourite band) version and I like it but will never ever be able to afford it.

100% If it looks good and you can bring your favourite team or sport into it say go for it.

·

There’s plenty of great collaborations out there Like Tudor and Ducati or IWC and Mercedes F1 or Tissot and Le Tour de France. When it’s done right everyone wins.

The neat thing about watches is that there is something for everyone, no matter how conservative or outlandish or anything in between.

·

I see no reason why sports teams or movie/TV characters would be "wrong" to have on a watch. It's not for me, but what I like isn't for everyone either.

·

Of course it's OK.

Not every time & place, but they do have their niche.

Full disclosure: I have 7 Star Wars themed watches

·

Sports watches not for me, but I would love a NASA watch one day. Hopefully Artemis will be successful and there will be a badass commemorative 2024(?) moon landing watch.

·

My other hobby is cycling so I'm thinking of having a custom dial made where the minute track looks like a bicycle chain.

·

dial clutter is a turn off. Its just advertising. buy a game ticket if you support them.

If I was a Knicks fan (or at least of their colourway), this would be high on the list.

Ohhh thats a nice one 🥹

Hmmm, I'm not into sports, but if that's your thing, nothing wrong with it.  However, with over 24 Snoopy and Peanuts themed watches, I'm guilty as charged.  Love them all!  Collecting should be fun and uplifting and a reminder not to take life so serious, it's serious enough.  How about a Snoopy super hero themed watch?

As a Vancouver Canucks fan, I always thought the Baltic Aquascaphe GMT blue and green would be a decent tribute watch.

Have you seen the cycling-based watches produced by Bravur? They have produced a Grand Tour series of chronographs for different races.

Check it out here: Bravur International Store (bravurwatches.com)
