2022 Retrospective and my favorite vintage watch acquisitions by month of 2022

As one always does when a year is near its end, you reflect upon all that has transpired in the prior twelve months.

This community has provided some really enjoyable content and interaction with fellow enthusiasts over the past year.

@Porthole and @Aurelian have given me some great education in their respective depth of knowledge. And have proven great sources of in-depth discussion and behind the scenes commiseration when some members who shall not be mentioned troll us.

@HotWatchChick69 has kept us laughing with his excellent sense of humor and his continued joie de vivre despite the long screeds concerning how economics function.

@JaeBust has continually wowed us with his amazing eye-popping collection of fabulous watches and his assiduous responsiveness to all comments made on WRUW.

@SurferJohn has been there every day with his encouragement on the daily WRUW postings and in many of the articles posted and has been active getting together members in this community.

@UnholiestJedi has to be the King of Comments (an unofficial badge) for WRUW. I enjoy reading his responses and enthusiasm he shares each day.

@Dumont has kept me engaged on his great love of high horology and our shared love of Parmigiani Fleurier.

@WatchYourIntruder gave us a marvelous series of posts on watches throughout the century - if you missed them you need to go back and check them out.

@Max of course made this all possible with his continued encouragement to get new members and the superb quality of his videos.

@TalkingDugong and @Ichibunz keep me rolling in laughter with their great posts and incredibly positive encouragement in my postings.

@AllTheWatches is like a brother from a different mother our taste in watches align so much (except for Rolex that is) and I really appreciate him giving me the heads up on the Farer Meredith - that was a great call - beautiful watch.

@Eris_Goddess_of_Discord - I would be remiss if I didn't mention Kaysia's warmth and generous comments and another unofficial badge The Sunshine of WatchCrunch. Thank you for all of your postings and the newsletter was a fantastic idea.

@TimexBadger keep rocking those Timex watches and listening to our favorite band of the 1970s - KISS.

@whitesalmon many thanks for the great communication and encouragement - I really appreciate your online friendship.

I'm sure I missed a number of you and I will apologize in advance for doing so - I had to stop somewhere, so I could continue on to the next part of this posting.

I wanted to share my favorite vintage watch acquired in each month over the past year (I can hear the snarky comments from some of you already).

The criteria was that I am only going to pick one watch from each month and it needs to a vintage watch (and yes my wife will shake her head and tell you that there are enough to choose from for each month - with her classic "you bought another of those - it looks just like all the other ones" - "why don't you buy a Daytona")

Here they are by month:

Can’t heart stamp this enough!  Spot on with your remarks about the amazing folks in this community. I thought I was a chrono fan, but you always seem to share something I have not seen before, which I greatly appreciate.

Here, here!  To many more good things in the year ahead!

@ChronoGuy Would you mind sharing which sites/means you use to acquire such interesting pieces?

·

You summoned me, so I must comment. 😉

Interesting to hear how I am perceived by others. Thank you.

And wifey has a point about January & August.

Wait, did your wife actually utter the words “why don’t you just get a Daytona?”  That’s amazing, I can’t even imagine.  While I would love a Daytona, in real life I’d be too overwhelmed with all the other watches I could get with that money to actually buy one, so I can understand that choice.

What you’ve posted here is a great looking collection, I don’t think I could handle the rest. Thanks for sharing.

Yes - my wife has bugged me for ages about Daytonas. I just let her know they are not that interesting to me. Of course, the one she admires the most is the green dial and gold - the "John Mayer" as it were. No way I'm spending $80-90k for a Daytona. Just not gonna happen in my lifetime.

@ChronoGuy Would you mind sharing which sites/means you use to acquire such interesting pieces?

Sure - I don't mind at all.

Here you go...

Catawiki - great auction site for watches - many European dealers - just be careful of those from Turkey and Eastern Europe

www.catawiki.com

Chrono24 - I think you all know this site

https://www.chrono24.com/

Delray Watch - I'm sure you all know Federico

https://delraywatch.com/

Heritage Auctions - a US-based auction house that is the premier auctioneer of a variety of collectibles including watches

https://www.ha.com/

Watches To Buy (Canada) - Derek is a great Canadian dealer with a fine selection of vintage watches

https://watchestobuy.com/

Watches83 (Spain) - Sigfrid and Silvia are fantastic and have a truly excellent selection of vintage watches especially some nice NOS 1970s references

https://watches83.com/

Hope you find something interesting there...
