I inherited some watches today

Moved my spouse's Grandfather into dementia care today. I was given his watches and wanted to show you folks. The Wittinauers aren't particularly interesting to me but the Gruen is a beautiful little thing, it runs! I'm going to polish that crystal and put it on a nice leather strap and treat it like a piece of a great man's legacy which it surely is.

Cheers!

Great legacy

I concur!

I hope your grandfather in-law is enjoying his new home. I see he liked those stretchy bracelets as much as my grandfather!

They're actually pretty comfortable! I'm going to have them cleaned when I get the watch serviced and see how it looks!

All of this is why collecting is so great...cheers!

It might be easier and cheaper to replace the acrylic on the Gruen as those scratches look very deep. Definitely get it on a leather strap.

Depending on the calibre, it should be an easy service, Gruen imported many Swiss ebauches into the US to use in their watches. We don’t see many this side of the pond which is why we get a little giddy over them, but yes, that’s a nice one.

Wittnauer can be a mixed bag, depending on age you are getting anything from having a decent ebauche to a huge bag of wasps. I do not wish to detract from a heirloom, believe me my grandfather left me a couple of pin-pallet suprises amongst the treasures, but the Gruen is the pick of the 3.

Agreed that Gruen is the star of the collection!  I think that will clean up nicely.

Love em’ !!!

All are properly classic designs that should prove wonderfully practical.

Those expansion bands are more interesting to me. They seem to have been made in all kinds of snazzy patterns back in the day and they are rare finds nowadays. Do not toss those! I hope you don't have the issue where they are for an uncomfortably smaller wrist.

I plan on having them cleaned and using them. One has made in Finland marks which I find endlessly interesting!
