Zelos or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Cobalt Bomb

My Horizons "Cobalt Blue" GMT isn't going to depopulate the Earth but it still able to cause an explosion once exposed to the sun.

The pronounced sunburst dial is playing together with the gilded hand set and indices to create one of the more dynamic light show that I can experience while charging up with coffee.

It's a bit of a surprise to notice that the bezel, while still very blue, isn't shinny or reflective at all. For some reasons of their own Zelos decided to opt for a matte ceramic insert and went as far as leaving the engraved numbers void of any paint to keep it as muted as possible.

It's not great for contrast and it's also a reason why the Horizons is a fine watch but not the best at being a GMT.

It's not due to any fault of the movement. The ETA 2893 Elaboré, with its custom rotor showing a map of the world, is quite nice to look at though the display case, and it's also a fine choice for a caller GMT.

It's just that having a very compact size (effectively a 38.5mm diameter), there's simply not a lot of space on the bezel for the 24 hour GMT indicators and it's therefore a bit of a struggle to track the second time zone, and quite futile to try and use the second indicator ring on the rehaut to track the third time zone.

The Horizons GMT is still one of the best purchases I ever made and it wears splendidly well on my wrist with its well matched tropic rubber strap. The CUSN8 bronze is settling gently into copper red while still keeping its luster, and the dial is of course the star of the show.

Another day, another watch until the contest goes away.
