The last square for the week, and the one that I absolutely didn’t need

The last square G-Shock that I own is also the one which took me the longest to buy. I’ve been eyeing the all metal GMW-B5000 for close to two years and I always found a good reason to pass it over and get something else.

I already explained last week the five reasons why I didn’t want it, and I also gave the sixth reason why none of them mattered in the end. The short of it is that I’m wearing today a watch that can be considered as the definitive square G-Shock, except that I don’t really believe it is.

The DW-5600E is the one that got me back into watches, the GM-S5600 made me understand that a square can also be something beyond a soldier’s field and service watch and the GW-M5610U is the one that I like the most. Logically I should not need another G-Shock, certainly not the GMW-B5000 which isn’t very good at being a G-Shock, but logic never really came into play when I bought my watches.

Which is a good thing, because it shows that I live in a world where I’m not restricted to necessities and that I can still buy what I want.

Got one myself. It’s a looker for sure…almost too much. I find myself protecting it from everything when I wear it because I’m scared to scratch it. Exactly what a G-Shock is not.

Wish I'd been aware of metal squares when this was available:

But my shiny black one comes close.
