Morning rituals with hi-tech and retro

Like many other people from my generation I have set routines that evolved into rituals. Mine is spending the early hours of morning, or sometime the late minutes of dawn, relaxing with a coffee and a book. It's also a good time for me to decide about the watch of the day, which on this occasion is the GL0162, one of the models resulting from a past Glycine and Massdrop collaboration to re-create the Airman No. 1.

But then I started to think that it's odd that I have no problems with reading and keeping my book collection on a hi-tech e-reader while I'm definitively attracted to retro-tech where watches are concerned, and let's be honest about the Airman: With it's non existent WR, quirky bezel, acrylic crystal, slim design and thin strap, it's very much retro, as much as a modern watch can be. 聽

The e-reader by comparison is everything that a book collector would hate, but I can't see myself going back to read from dead tree pages. Why is one OK but not the other? I still keep a large part of my book collection on the shelves but it's been ages since I pulled a real book out to read and I don't miss the feeling of paper or the smell of books while just thinking about going back to the Smartwatch is filling me with dread.

Maybe I need to drink more coffee.

nice watch, and routine 馃槀

I love all the Glycine Airman watches. Have a weak spot for them from the first time I saw it. Now my favorite version is this:

I like GMT watches and I like retro styled watches, so the Glycine Airman No. 1 was a no brainer for me.

Most of the time the comments are rather questions about the dial because the 24hr hour track confuse the heck of most of them.

Lovely pictures and I don't know much about "Glycine" but that watch of yours looks really unique and special, thanks for sharing!

I love that model too, but I'm not a NATO fan. 聽I think it looks great on this beads of rice:

Glycine is an interesting brand because they still sell watches that are very much alike the first GMT watches favored by aircrew and Gemini astronauts.

That's some cool history, going to delve into it once I have fully woken up 馃ぃ

Believe it or not, there is a whole fan site dedicated to Glycine and the Airman.
