How to show that you are French without saying it.

It's pretty simple: drive a Peugeot, drink mint Antésite from a Duralex glass, prop up an Opinel for those who can't get a hint, and wear a Yema on your wrist. That's it, no silly beret, no baguette, and neither cheese nor croissant are needed.

Why a Yema? Because at some point in the past and before the quartz decimation they used to be the largest watch manufacturer in France. Most of the grownups around me used to wear LIP watches but this is because my parents were young broke students and didn't know any cool people.

It's been decades since I lived in France but apparently even if there is some truth in the saying that you can't go back, there are still things from the country of your birth that clings to you forever. Like drinking Antésite.

This bronze and steel green Yema Superman is my choice to wear on this bright and sunny day. Beside the iconic retro look it's also comfortable on my wrist, courtesy of the incredible light grey "Mirage" MN strap from Erika's Originals.

As a french I never had Antésite but do have had a fair share of opinel since I was ten and had both Peugeot and Renault. 😅

You could not be a French kid growing up in the 60's without having Antésite poured into a Duralex glass during the summer, especially if you were visiting your grandparents. It was a typical "French" thing to do, just like slicing an apple with an old Opinel.

Aah, yes... And 30 years ago a pack of Gauloises. Nice watch!

Drawn in by the Opinel (my first hobby was knives) stayed for the rest and now I'm thirsty 🤣

I have unfortunately got onto #yema's email marketing list (I have no idea how) and have to fight myself about buying either a #superman 500 or a #navygraf #submarine forces... Every week!😜

I had to delude myself that buying this bronze Superman was not like buying the same watch twice. This is when I discovered that autosuggestion is also a French thing (Émile Coué).

I never developed a taste for cognac or whiskey, but if you want to taste something different then do try one of the French Rhum Agricole, like the Clément on the left. They are not at all like Jamaica rum and maybe you'll like it as much as I do. I
