A great wave on a cold February day

I'm finally getting to enjoy a bit of clear sky and sunshine after almost a week of gloom. It's nice to be able to sit outside and drink the morning coffee without getting plastered to the walls by rain and wind. It's still just about +7C, so it's not exactly a balmy day, but it's surprising how much I feel better under a clear sky.

That mental boost gave me the urge to wear the Islander ISL-68 with it's fully lumed great wave dial. It's a watch I don't wear often primarily due to its heft and also because it's the kind of a dial that I like to see during summers, but hey...sunshine!

The AR coating is showing under the slightly pink light of early morning and from the reflection I can also see some clouds, so maybe I should not be too optimistic. The ISL-68 is basically a mini-Turtle and I upgraded its bracelet with female end links to make it wear a bit smaller on my 6.5ish wrist. The problem with female end links is pretty much obvious in these photos: they break the flow from the case to the bracelet and so they may be better for a smaller wrist, but esthetically they are a bit worse than male end links, IMO of course.

It's still a nice well built and sturdy watch and it's very usable despite its lack of indices on the dial.

I agree, my Northport has an oyster style bracelet with female endlinks, and that gaping hole left behind in the center is not very pleasing to look at. I think the jubilee probably looks a little better. I understand the need for them on a watch with a long LTL, but the Northport is only 47mm, which many people can pull off with regular endlinks. Regardless, Marc seems to put them on everything now. I think they could be designed a little better to decrease the visible gap.

I upgraded the bracelet twice, on the first time I changed the clasp to the one with more micro adjustment and the second time was when I replaced the original male end links with the female end links.

It was a bit more difficult to swap than I thought and I'm not convinced that it was worth the effort.
