Depends on the watch. I went with an older Explorer because it didn’t have an engraved rehaut, making it a cleaner look imo.
I have a Vaer that has a large rehaut and it seems kind of like an unintentional design. It could maybe benefit from 5 minute intervals or something on the rehaut.
Some GMTs use the rehaut to discretely display hrs.
In the 70s Ebauches SA created Memosail to sell yachting timers. These watches give a 15 minute countdown so that the boats can position themselves for the regatta.
This movement is a Valjoux 7733/4 which was a modified Valjoux 7737 that instead of a traditional minute counter has a 15 minute wheel that counts down (START10987654321). Even the minute track has countdown second numbers.
My Grandpa wore it often for its intended use. I found this in a drawer it had what looked like salt on the dial and it would barely wind. Got it serviced and it runs like a top.
It’s weird it’s colorful and it’s back from the dead.
