Is Anyone Else Impressed With Timex Recently?

Timex will always hold a special place in my heart, as the first watch I ever got was a Timex I got for Christmas when I was seven years old. However, as much as I loved Timex, they weren't really producing any watches that got me really excited when I started collecting watches. That all changed with the release of the 34mm hand wind Marlin in 2017. Now, Timex is releasing watches that get me excited, including this automatic Marlin. I am so glad I got the green dial while it was still available, as I cannot seem to find one for sale now. I will be getting one of the Field Expedition North Solar watches and one of the Waterbury automatic watches later this year.

"Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!" 😂 I have an Easy Reader Signature I picked up a number of years ago. The only thing I really dislike on the Easy Reader is the absolutely smooth crown. Makes it hard for my fat fingers to grab it. 🤣

The first non toy watch I was bought was a Timex sprite in 1979, my parents bought it for me on my 6th birthday.

I still have it and it still runs and keeps (just about) the time.

I cant think of a single watch I would trade it for - its priceless!

The main gripe I have with them is the inconsistent pricing. Perceived value and experience of ownership will differ depending on entry-point, and it’s a moving target. Like the watches though, but I bought my Peanuts Marlin new for £80, Snoopy Space Mission new for £35, and an x Todd Snyder Military for £25, so naturally I would really like them for those prices.

·

Totally agree.  They are really stepping up their game.  The Heritage and memories of your first watch (for many in the U.S. was Timex) is priceless, so glad they are going into the archives so the new generation of watch people can enjoy what we did!

I've been a fan since the 60's and still am.

I’m definetly impressed with your watch-strap combo👌

I do agree, and that is one of the reasons I am waiting until later in the year to get a solar Field Expedition North or a Waterbury automatic; waiting for the price to drop a bit on the grey market. I really do like my new Q Digital, but I found it for a lower price than the MSRP on Amazon, of all places. It seems like they are pricing their heritage or archive watches substantially higher than their regular lines. I have a solar Expedition Scout and a solar Expedition Ranger that together still list for less than the price of a solar Expedition North, and I got them both for less than $100. Why is the solar Expedition North so much more expensive? I am hoping it is like the other heritage/archive Timex watches in my collection and you will be able to find an Expedition North for a much lower price in a few months if you have patience and shop around a bit.

It's a brown suede strap from Strapsco. Only about $20 or so. It's only genuine leather, but it still looks good.

I agree and I do have some of their lower price models in my collection that predate the re-release of the Marlin; a couple of quartz Expeditions, and Easy Reader Signature, and one of the antique-style Weekenders. They are great value for the price, but not something that I would get excited about. It is just nice to see Timex producing watches above the budget level again that have me in a state of anticipation. You know; anticipayaytion; Timex is making me wait. 😂

Yeah, I may question if the vintage/retro releases are worth the full price on the Timex website, and wait until the price drops below MSRP on them, but I am still excited to add them to my collection.

I’m also very annoyed about the Huckberry colab. By the time I heard about it in the UK it had sold out in the States. Not cool…

I‘m not sure I’m going to get more Timex, unless it’s at ridiculously low prices. A mate has a new black Q, so can’t get one now…

I'm a Timex Fan; it was the first watch I owned as my Dad gave it me as a kid. I was real young don't think any other friend was required to wear a watch at the time and for me it was required lol. Time and weather were important things to my Dad. I suspect one came from his time in the Army during WWII and the second was due to him being a Farmer. As a result those two things are a fixation for me. I still remember laying beside him being amazed by the magic of the lume on his watch.

Anyway, I'm on their email list and have been impressed. Been a few times I decided to jump on one just to see the one I wanted was sold out. :(

Yeah, I get that. I was looking for a T80 Pride as I would like to round out my collection of T80 retro releases; I will get the 1971 Coca Cola as soon as I locate a Pride for a reasonable price, as in below $100. I saw a couple of the HuckBerry Arctic Navi XL for $279, it is now down to only one.

That has happened to me with other brands, but I have been somewhat lucky with Timex. I am not sure if the green dial Marlin automatic is really unpopular or really popular, as I cannot seem to locate one anywhere except in my watch box. 🤣 My gut feeling is that I got really lucky to get one while they were still available.

Love me some Timex....was my first watch...I grabbed a 36mm Timex MK1 Mechanical this month... pre-owned....threw it on a 18mm Barton strap.....love it!!! The simplicity and basic essentials of this watch are fantastic. I wish there were some more colors available....a white dial would rock....but for now I'll enjoy this simple 3 hander

Nice! I am wanting to add one of the Expedition North mechanicals myself later this year. Is there a Miyota movement in that one or is it a different movement?

The success of the Giorgio Galli models (I have the 38mm green dial variant - very nice, poor strap though) proves that they can play in the £400-500 mark as long as they don’t cheap out on materials. Timex aren’t quite there yet. Sapphire Crystal, 9 series movements and decent bracelets are needed for them to be a credible option for many I think.

I am seriously considering getting one of the American Documents!

I believe it's a modified 20 jewel Seagull ST6 movement.

If you mean the 41mm small seconds then It’s a great looking watch, but it’s a lot of money ($495 ?) for a quartz piece. I’m holding out hope they release a decent spec auto. ✌🏼

OK, this is similar to the movement in the 34mm hand wind Marlin. I had one, but my wife confiscated it for her collection. 😂

Yeah, I know it is a lot for a quartz movement. For me, it is more about it being made in the USA except for the movement. I am excited to see an increase (probably more of a return) of watchmaking in the US and have several US assembled watches in my collection. If it was an Ameriquartz movement, I would definitely get one as it would be a watch completely made in the US. 😀

My wife got me a Waterbury Automatic for Christmas. I really like it, perfect on my wrist, comfortable to wear so when Timex was have 25% off I decided I needed the Red Sox MarLin Automatic.

Yes, the Galli S1 38mm is one of my office watches. That is a watch that punches well above its weight.

I actually like the stock strap on the S1. My only complaint is that it’s not as supple as other rubber/silicone straps, with my only comparison points being Seiko and Apple.

If being a fan since the '60s makes one old, does being a fan since the '70s make me old or middle aged? Asking for a friend. 🤣

I always remember my great classy uncle he used a lot of old spice, chaps and that classy Timex Marlin he always wear.
