How Big Is Too Big?

I ran across this watch a little while ago, and I was not sure if it was an actual watch or a gag. Apparently, it is a real watch with a diameter of 90mm and a weight of 1.6 lbs. While I readily admit that I favor smaller watches, even with a 7 1/2" wrist, and I tend to wear watches that are 43mm or smaller, I do have watches that are larger in size, like my Seiko Arnie, my Casio Edifice, and my Casio Pro Trek, and I am not disparaging larger watches or people who prefer them. I have a friend who really likes the larger watches from brands like Diesel and Invicta. However, seeing this Musk watch got me thinking. Is there a point at which a watch is too large or is it all personal preference? Is this an actual watch someone would wear or is it a novelty gimmick? What do you all think?

I always thought it was a joke.

It's been making the forum rounds for a few years now.

I can imagine the guys at Panerai sketching a similar new release at this moment 😜

I think you wear what you like. I find it weird that most of us prefer a smaller watch no more than lets just say 42mm. Then when it comes to G-Shocks we are all up on that 48mm LOL.

You reference an important point, that we like different sizes in different styles. Divers, pilots, sports, and chronographs are somewhat larger on average than field, dress, and everyday watches. More broadly, is it similar to Justice Potter Stewart's comments about pornography: I can't tell you what size is too large, I just know it when I see it? 🤣

Too big? Gimmick/novelty?

According to this article, it's actually real:

Personally I feel that a case should take up 2/3 of wrist width at most, but anytime that lugs overhang total wrist width, it's inarguably too big in a non-comical way.

Also, any time you can slide a pencil in the air gap between watch and wrist, that's a problem.

Cost?

Cost?

I honestly have no idea for the Musk, but I believe the Diesel is around $500.
