Watch ID Help… Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel’s 4-subdial chronograph

Watch ID Help… NFL Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel’s 4-subdial chronograph… I’m thinking it’s a 1990s Breitling Navitimer Twin Sixty, but not my area of expertise. What think you?

It's almost certainly a Breitling 1461.  The four subdials are pretty rare.  What's curious is that it appears to be in rose gold.  I was unaware that they made that reference in rose gold (though I'm not a Breitling expert).

I don't know it just seems as warm light is doing it rose, but the watch is stainless steel. But that's just a guess.

UPD: looked at other pictures. It is most definitely rose gold. You have eagle eyes.

I have no idea how you spotted that. I had to dig for multiple pictures. In some it looks good and in others it looks SS. Hard to tell if it’s just lighting.

Hah, it just didn't look quite like steel. Like you and @witcher.watcher I did end up corroborating with other photos. McDaniel is awfully fond of that Breitling.

Still I am mystified by the exactly reference because I can't find a rose gold four subdial Navitimer with a bracelet in my limited searching.

I’m just gonna say it - it’s gaudy as hell on him. If it came out that he was a real watch nerd vs. he just bought something that looked expensive (and probably was), I’d be shocked.

In actuality it’s probably a gift from his wife and he’s a great guy...but I’ve hated this on him since week 1.

Not sure what the threshold is for qualifying as an authentic watch nerd, but he has and wears multiple mechanical chronographs. Maybe wearing something that isn’t currently in style is more of a statement than if he wore the standard issue BB58 that they give out when passing the Real Watch Nerd Certification Board Exam administered by the Redbar.

I‘d wear it. I’d even use the division feature of the slide rule to calculate how much I cared if someone else liked it.

I'd wear it too (if it were not say 44mm and above which given that it's a Navitimer, I would 100% expect).  My wrist can't handle that kind of presence.

I'm pretty sure he's a bit of a watch dork (most rich dudes are at least conversant).  I am now convinced that this watch is actually a much rarer watch than I initially thought.

One of those registers is a Moonphase so I think my initial thought of it being a 1461 is probably off.

I do know of a four register Breitling in rose gold with a blue dial.  The 25 piece limited edition 1952 Navitimer Quantieme Perpetual Rose Gold.  Chrono/gmt/perpetual calendar.

Image

Given the gap in the endlink on the bracelet, it could have been a bracelet that came with another similarly shaped watch (although I have known Breitling to do authentically ill fitting bracelets, just ask @rowiphi about his friend's Breitling Grand Premier Chronograph....)

I think this is not the sort of watch one just happens upon in the shop window.

Yes, apparently they just do bracelets not very well... It's just the long lugs, that make no sense to me. It's like a sailor made love to a German minimalist architect...

I think you’ve nailed it. The subdial at 3 looks like a moonphase!

You have no idea how many hours I spent burning my brain on this one. Especially when I had significantly better things to do with my time!

So I just saw him in the podcast The Pivot…he pretty much said he went in and just asked for a big in your face watch to wear everyday as a reminder to work hard and show his players he was confident he would succeed to spend a bunch of money on a watch.

He also mentioned it’s a limited edition

I’m paraphrasing but he talks about it on the show breifly
