Announcing Double-Wrist Day: Coming this December 12th

I’m pleased to announce that the first (best that I can tell) Double-Wrist Day (DWD) will be celebrated this December 12th! To help inaugurate this (hopefully) annual event, I will be posting some special pairings of wristwatches each month leading up to the event that when worn together, tell a unique story about horology. Then, on DWD2023 (December 12, 2023), you are encouraged to show off your own pairings by posting photos of your double-wrist action.

Look for the first of these special pairings to be posted on or around June 12th, but until then you can find some answers to (what I imagine will be) some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the event. Please continue to ask any questions in the comments below and I will continue to update this post.

DWD2023 will live right here on WatchCrunch, so you can always come right back to this post for all the most up-to-date information. Make sure when you are posting about your plans for DWD2023 that use hashtag #DWD2023 so that all the photos and posts can be found under one tag. And don’t forget to subscribe to #DWD2023!

Until then, I’d love to hear your thoughts on if you think this event should be tied to a charitable donation?

FAQs

What is Double-Wrist Day?

Double-Wrist Day (DWD) is a day where watch aficionados, enthusiasts, and novices alike are encouraged to wear a wristwatch on each wrist – what is commonly termed as “double-wristing”.

What is “double-wristing”?

Simply put, wearing a wristwatch on both wrists at the same time. For a more detailed answer, you are encouraged to read Double-Wristing: A Guide For The Perplexed (Jack Forester/Hodinkee)

So, I just wear two watches?

Essentially yes, but also try to be creative! Look at your watch collection and look for pairing that tell us something about you. Maybe you still own your first watch and you can pair that with your latest acquisition. Or maybe you have birth watches for your two children. Have fun with it!

Why is DWD on December 12th?

The date, numerically written as 12/12, represents two watch dials with 12 o’clock indicators.

How can I support DWD?

Spread the word! When you make a post about double-wristing here on WC, hashtag #DWD2023 so we can collect all the posts and pictures in one place. If you have other online presences where you talk about your watch addiction, link back to this post so that others can find out about this exciting horological holiday!

Why are you doing this?

Idunno, seemed liked a good idea at the time.

Who are you?

I’m just someone with a passion for wearing, talking, and obsessing over watches! I’m not affiliated with WC or any other entity, I make no income from DWD (and never intend to) and I am selling no goods or services.

Absolutely! I’m really excited to see what everyone comes up with!

Cool idea! Especially the thought of making the two watches chosen say something meaningful about the wearer.

I’ll do you one better. I going to posting every month leading up up the event with a special pairing of watches. These will also serve as reminders for everyone who wants to participate.

Thanks! Some of my favorite posts on WC are when people talk about why a certain watch on there collection means so much to them. I can’t wait to see what happens when you put two special watches together to tell a story!

Well, you could always try "tripple-wristing" like double-wrist aficionado (and Formula 1 legend) Lewis Hamilton:

But be warned! Hamilton is an elite athlete, and tripple-wristing should not be attempted by anyone with weak wrists!
