Have you ever dabbled in Vintage Pocket Watches?

This is my first vintage watch, and I went all the way in. 1911 Illinois Watch Company pocket watch marked for Schaefer & Addison Jewelers in Baltimore, MD(my home town). I thought this was a great tie in to a pocket watch and it shipped from a “heirloom dealer” in Berkeley Springs, WV. Which is one of my fiancé and my favorite places to visit. It all ties together and it think it beautifully shows it’s age and life story. I hope to collect a few more pocket watches as time goes on, I’d love to keep chasing stories like I have with this watch.

Great choice to start - Illinois Watch Co a classic American watch brand that was once one of the greatest watchmakers in the world - at least by volume and sales success. Later sold to Hamilton in 1928 - another once great American watch brand (now owned by Swatch).

Here are a few PWs that I have in my collection:

A "marriage" watch - converting a vintage 1911 IWC PW to a wrist watch

A 1940s British JLC WWII Military PW

1930s Luftwaffe Doxa PW WWII Military Pilot Watch conversion

Patek Philippe "Richochet" designed by Gilbert Albert in the 1960s

And a 1980s modern reissue PW with Swiss quartz movement from Leuba Louis

Those are all awesome! I think pocket watches are the best hidden treasures in watches currently. So many big name manufactures for fractions of the wrist watch prices. I’ve been eyeballing A. Lange & Söhne pocket watches for a while because they’re so affordable compared to the wrist watch alternatives. I’ve been thinking about getting a pocket watch movement and a conversion case, yours look great!

That is a little Beauty and an excellent US brand as well!.

Nice catch!,  ONLY if you are like me, one pocket watch WILL BECOME many Pocket Watches.

I also began with a nice US branded Pocket watch, it ran like the beating heart of a baby. I used to fall to sleep every night to it's ticking, until my ex wife insisted it must be removed from the bedroom.

Now 35 years later, I still have that pocket watch and as you will have guessed from ex wife,  She had to go!.  😀🤣😂🤣😀

Genuinely a little beauty, congrats on a Wise choice for your first!. I really like the way in which you view that pocket watch!,  not just a timepiece but a record of those who owned it before you did. I like that.
