As the dust settles on the Moonswatch release...

While everyone was distracted by Swatch's big release, Omega was quietly releasing a new watch into their Novelty collection for 2022. And I must say... Omega has my full attention with this one!

This is a reissue by Omega of the CK 859, and it is exactly what I'm looking for. I have always been drawn to the designs of vintage watches, and really appreciate that brands like Longines and Omega are reissuing pieces from their past with modern materials and methods. I have always been on the fence about diving into the deep end of Vintage watch collecting, because they come with their own host of... let us say, charm. This is why I've enjoyed retro themed watches as of late. For instance, I have on preorder the Baltic MR01 with Salmon dial, and I own the Helson homage to Omegas 1967(ish) SM300 and Baltics Bicompax 001 that is inspired by 1940's Pateks.

I recently, while on travel happened upon an Omega boutique, and popped in to see what they had on hand. I looked at handful of watches to include the SM300 in Bronze Gold.. which I have to say is gorgeous!

Although the sales specialist seemed to talk me out of it, since I "already own a vintage inspired Seamaster 300" which is vintage in its own right now at 22 years of age and I absolutely love it! (pictured below)

So I decided to try on a Tresor hand-wound dress watch, which I was surprised at how well it fit my small wrists for it being a 40mm watch. I nearly bought it! Below is the Blue linen dial version pictured on the Omega website. The movement while machine finished is beautiful to look at and the same movement that is used in the CK 859 that is 39mm.

Now just need my local AD to keep me posted on when the Ck 859 will be available in the store!!

For fun here is a picture of my other two vintage watches I own.

Amazing piece. Just another day WatchFinder released this video you may find interesting.

I can see a nice merge between the Longines and the Patek.

·

Not an Omega guy, but that one is pretty.

And, your GMT is the 2nd best Seamaster in recent memory (just edged out by the Great White version).  :-)  The sales guy is right, no need for another.

Wow!  That sector dial is amazing!  Need a full review when you get your hands on it!

·

Great looking watch. I have a soft spot for vintage - to include vintage Omega pieces if you can’t tell from my profile photo.

·

Oh man I really really like that watch.

Ive been stalking The Omega Enthusiatists web page everytime an email goes out that hes added new watches... My only vintage Omega, so far, is my SMP and not as "vintage" as most think when you say "vintage Omega"

OK, great looking watch; I don’t have a sector dial; I don’t have a mechanical Omega; not a bad price; haven’t bought anything major since last October; any other good excuses you all can give me to explain my likely future buy to certain loved ones? 🥴Hopefully it won’t be in the stores until May, my Birthday month - see there‘s another one!

I just told my wife.. heres a Bday and anniversary gift idea for this year.. when she asked the price she walked away muttering something to the tune of "HOW much for a watch?" I've already reached out to my AD about.. the last time I did that I shortly after that came home with my Nomos Tangente Update 41.. she also came home with a diamond/platinum "anniversary ring"... so I might be pushing my luck with this one.. we'll see!

·

Would I wear it? Absolutely!

Would I pay the price? Not a chance.

·

It's so pretty!😍 Very sad it has not gotten the attention it deserves yet!

It's unlikely to be advertised broadly either if I had to guess.

·

This is probably the best release of this year.  It was completely overshadowed by Omega’s association with that silly plastic Swatch.  Maybe if they issue the CK859 in plastic, it will get some attention. LOL

That is more gorgeous than any sub $15K watch that I have seen coming out of Watches and Wonders this week. Thanks for sharing!

Agreed!

Beautiful watch, great size, metas certified movement, antimagnetic, 72hr power reserve. Vintage look without the hassle. However why only 30m water resistance? Surely a crown and case gasket could bump it up a little for peace of mind? Am I being too fussy, I know if I owned this it wouldn’t accompany me for a swim, but I would like to not worry about it if caught in a heavy down pour!

30m is pretty common for dress watches I think. I'd expect it would be ok in a downpour. But I feel the say way about any watch with less than 100m .. especially at this cost bracket.

I concede your point. I’m sure it would hold up better than a 1940s 30T2. Looking at a the specs for a Patek 5296G-001 it’s 30 meters too and nobody complaining.

I guess I will change my mindset on thinking every versatile looking watch is a potential GADA watch!
