Grand Seiko rotor (maybe) noise.

I feel like I’ve heard comments in the past that Grand Seikos can be “noisy” from a movement perspective. I think it was related to the rotor and rotor system. Maybe? I’ve been doing some research but not seeing anything substantive, so I thought I’d ask the community. I know there are a good number of GS owners on the forum.

I also feel like the new 9SA5 movement has been said to be a bit extra noisy compared to other movements within the brand.

Any truth to this?

I feel like when I am changing straps or doing anything that quickly changes the position of the case it’s louder and much more noticeable than it should be. None of my other automatic pieces make as much noise. It almost feels like something is loose.

The watch holds a charge no problem and it’s accurate to just under +4 seconds a day.

Is this just how it is with the brand?

Yeah, holding my GS up to my ear and shaking it, I can definitely hear and feel the rotor going round. Loud. Though, still much quieter than the Valjoux 7750 -that is one noisy rotor!

All my GS have been Spring Drive. Only sound is when you are winding the watch & it's kind of a zen moment. I have a few watches with rotor noise and I love that too!

I agree on rotor noise, but not an issue and it is normal. Love the 44gs case, stunning!

Thanks! 44GS is by far my favorite case.

I was searching for something about Spring Drive so I found this post. Yes I can hear my GS SD's rotor spinning but I actually like it. And I also like my Traska Freediver's rotor (Miyota mov.), which sounds like a fidget spinner with dry bearings (they fixed this "problem" for the next gen), so I don't really have problems with these sounds 😂. Enjoy the GS! 😍
