Well, wealth consolidation to the 1%, commodification of basic human needs, and luxury brands inflating their products value via manufactured scarcity didn't help. 🙂
Certain people who own big dollar watches seem prone to pulling up their sleeves and flashing their prizes around for all the world to see. Bad people notice too.
I almost always wear long sleeves, which are cut to the back of the hand, so that 99% of the time, the watch is covered by the cuff, remaining virtually invisible. If I am wearing short sleeves, then you can bet that the watch on my wrist is a beater.
1) Purchase insurance and willingly surrender and watch that you are asked for by criminals 2) Wear inexpensive brands more often to reduce your risk 3) Buy a great safe & anchor it to a wall or floor 4) Cameras, dogs and firearms are awesome = have them all 5) Stop voting for people who are soft on crime & advocate for less punishment & Enforcment of the laws. Refuse to listen to manufactured statistics that tell you this is not an issue.
I was born in Eritrea, living in upstate New York, I absolutely love watches especially vintage ones, I can't explain Why I own these watches, the only thing I can say is This is definitely my Passion.
You can author a book on the reason(s) why. Since this is the watch community, my advice is to maintain situational awareness and be safe.

I feel insulted that the thieves aren't targeting me. I need more desirable watches.

^ This. Too many people are oblivious to what's going on around them these days. Criminals look for the easiest targets.
Edit: I would also add, know your environment. There are some places you should avoid going or, if you have to go, dress accordingly.

Invictas may not be luxury watches, but I love mine. If they try to take it from me, they'd better have a gun. 😎

I'm sure it's happening in big cities in the States, but I've heard it's really bad in London.
Haven’t heard much about it in LA.
I blame The Sopranos.
