What's you favourite watch brand & why?

Which watch brand is currently you favourite and why? What might be even more interesting is which models in the brand line up you prefer?

For me it's definitely IWC. I believe they are the masters in clean, but beautiful design. Their focus on using modern materials like Ceramic and Ceratanium combined with high end engineered features and movements are really interesting. Finally their long history in military aviation draws me towards the brand.

Here are my two IWC Pilot watches currently in the collection. Both represent two very distinctly different times in IWC history.

The Mark XV (38mm) was made from 1999 until the early 2000’s and uses the original Mark series RAF hands, which were switched to the Flieger style hands with the introduction of the Mark XVI (initially the Mark XV Spitfire). The case size and clean black dial make it the perfect daily wear for me.

The 90’s and early 2000's was a great period for IWC enthusiasts as they produced beautifully, but functionally designed tool watches. The 3705 and 3706 Flieger Chronograph probably being the most famous one's today.

The 2019 Spitfire Chronograph (41mm) was the first in the modern Spitfire line. This, for me, represents the start of IWC’s current vision, once again producing high end tool watches with engineering and functionally in mind. But with a nod to the old Mark military series watches by using the faux patina lume on the 3, 6, 9, 12 indices and hands, just like the tritium on those watches.

Which IWC model is your favourite? Or which brand & models do you prefer?

Thanks for reading!

I agree, every brand has models I like or dislike. Personally I really like the IWC design language and engineering. But that being said, the Portofino range is not my cup of tea haha.

The BP43 is one of IWC’s best modern watches IMO! Great dial colour you chose as well. Got any photos of the movement?

·

Casio. Since I was a teenager Casio was there.

I had other models but these are what I currently own.

Not fancy, but I have great stories with them.

I’ve become a big Christopher Ward gambit. I’ve only got one just now the C60 Sapphire Orange

Image

and what I’m eyeing up next is a 39mm C63 Sealander

I just think they look great, I wish I could talk about how well built they are (and I’m sure they are), or how their made in Switzerland to Swiss standards but the truth us I just like how they look. Superficial I know but that’s what I’ve got.

Omega is my favorite watch brand.  My grandfather used to wear one, and I always loved that watch.  I wanted a Seamaster 300M for 25 years, finally got it two years ago.  I find their watches appealing pretty much across their vast catalogue, and they are high quality.

·

Probably Christopher Ward. The Trident C60, third gen, is the perfect dive watch (in my opinion).

Freaking beautiful pieces man!

I love IWC too, for its history, but my favourite brand is Longines as you probably know they share similar pilot watch stories, so at the end they are both beautiful brands.

Liking the way they look is all the justification you’ll ever need! Great choices man.

Longines might very well be my number 2. I‘d used to own a 40mm Spirit and man, what a beautiful watch. I’m considering one of the Heritage collection watches as a dress piece soon.

I've always liked the look of the IWC Pilots Chronographs, and recently picked up the 2021 model Pilots Watch Chronograph 41 (IW3881-02 Blue dial on bracelet). I'm very pleased with it, but I would have to say that I prefer Omega as a brand.  I have several Omega Speedmaster variants, and feel that they have a higher quality feel compared to the IWC. The winding action on the Omegas is significantly smoother, and they seem to be more accurate (within 2SPD versus 6SPD for the IWC). I must say that I love the easy on the fly micro adjustment that the IWC bracelet offers, but I'm not really sure how I feel about the bracelet from an aesthetic point of view.  With the large lume filled hands, the IWC is super easy to read the time at a glance, however the thickness of those hands can often obscure the chrono subdials (I  have the same issue with the hour hand on my Speedmaster Broad Arrow). Aesthetically, the gorgeous blue dial on the IWC is nicer than any of my Omegas, and overall it makes a really compelling package that I'm very pleased to have in my collection.

Vertex - awesome vintage, Dirty Dozen, and the modern reboot is still owned by the family and do re-imagination properly.

·

For me it has always benn and will always be Seiko.

·

For me it's Cartier. They look like serious dress watches at first glance but definitely have a whimsical edge to them.

·

Breguet - Abraham-Louis Breguet was a genius who advanced watches more than other human. The brand that bears his name has not lost their passion to make incredible complicated time pieces.

·

Baume et Mercier. Under-rated,  understated, under appreciated. One of the oldest brands with beautiful workmanship and material.

·

Jaeger-Lecoultre. My grandfather’s watch was a JLC; my grail watch collection when I discovered the world of watches was the master compressor series, and I absolutely love the Polaris line. Need that Polaris worldtimer in blue. Did I mention the reverso ?

·

Theres a lot of brands that I like but most of my life I have to say about one particular brand is Casio going back to the 80s,90s and present Casio for me always been the  common man basic watch. might not been for all but most of us here for sure has at least one more Casios in there collection.

·

At the moment Citizen. Good value and features with history that makes them known to be extremely reliable.

And their style is totally what I love. Rugged tool watches that are big and not boring.

Image

I like some Casio but they also screw up so many things on their watches like badly thought out features and dumb designs (almost all Edifice watches with screens and most G shocks too) and the lack of lugs on almost all G shocks. And far too much plastic on both the high and low end.

Still they have a few gems.

Certina because I get entry level Swiss with robustness and style at great prices. Also heritage that is comparable to many more well-known brands. And DS gives me peace of mind.
