Why are ceramic (and carbon) cased watches so expensive?

I'm a big fan of The Grey Nato podcast. A recent episode on "More New Watches!" covered the new and sold-out Doxa Army Watches of Switzerland Edition (only 100 made), which has a ceramic case and is priced at $4500. The Doxa forged carbon Sub 300 model (not an LE) is equally pricey at $4790 while the stainless version is roughly half of that at $2450.

Now compare that with the #tudorblackbay ceramic at $4825. Further compare the carbon Doxa's price (close to $5k) with the #victorinox carbon at $1225 and the #christoperward carbon C63 diver for $1275. Heck, #luminox has a "carbonox+" diver for $765 (plus 15% off!).

Yes, the Doxa ceramic is beautiful. Yes, that brand is hot. Yes to everything else you're ready to counter with. 😎 But while these small runs from smaller brands don't get the economies of scale, why are they so expensive? The Doxa ceramic is sold out so they're correct to charge what the market will bear. But I really want to see Christopher Ward, #raven , #nodus , #oakandoscar, or some other innovative small brand come out with a $1000-1500 #ceramic diver that's not an LE, not the cost of a kitchen renovation, and totally available and affordable to, well, me. 😀

Does an affordable ceramic-case diver even exist? 💸
