The Micro Fan’s Favorite W&W Releases That Are Not Rolex Or Tudor

Hey aren’t you the guy spamming our feed with polls plugging microbrands? Don’t you also have a bunch from the House of Wilsdorf? I hear all of that, but I am nothing if not impartial on most items and while I appreciate what Rolex/Tudor did, I am not rushing to the AD for any. What? Did they say the new 41 was slimmed down? Ignore that…Definitely maybe not going to trade my current one in for it.

Before I get started, should we buy any of these? Or should we side with our friends and stop the growing waste on new watches and seek out timeless classics we have not heard of that are likely better? Maybe both?

Figured I would share some of the pieces I have not seen that jump out at me as being awesome. Will start with the brands fans love most (to hate).

Arnold and Son Globetrotter - Who doesn’t like a world timer? Somehow one of the least garish watches from them, while still being distinctively on brand.

Image

Tag Heuer Carrera Date - Look at this pink? Updated movement, svelte 36mm, and some colorful dials. Kudos for Tag. Tomorrow I am sure they will announce the Bowser-inspired smart watch for $19K.

Image

Panerai Radomir California - Next another WC fam favorite that absolutely no one has objections to, Panerai. I know, I know, faux patina, fake vintage, etc; but serious, this is cool, even for someone like me who does not care about Panerai.

Okay, perhaps nothing those brands do will bring you around, but how about these?

Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen South Pole

Image

Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro Rotor Evergreen - Everyone seems to like the 1908, but this is the dress watch I would rather have.

Image

Ressence Type 8S - I would still prefer the Type 3, but this is a cool dial, though it does kind of remind me of the mint Aquis color the more I look at it.

Yes, all on brand and no black or white watches. Any others stand out to you? Here is the full list.

Smart write up. That Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen South Pole is amazing. I’d like to look more in to this.

I love the Tag Heuer Carrera line. This pink dial would be great for the wife.

Agree on those TAG DJ’s… I mean Carrera Dates. Popping colors.

Not too smart, just realized autocorrect changed Wilsdorf to an entirely different family <fixed>! On a serious note, yeah, Montblanc has been killing it lately and that one jumps out at me.

Yep, a couple years late to the popping color game, but we need more colors in this hobby.

LOL I knew what you meant as autocorrect butchers my grammar daily.

Wait, it’s not just Rolex and Tudor that make watches anymore? How did I miss all these new players getting into the watch game?

Right? Last count 22/32 W&W related posts all Wilsdorf. Couple of the same Patek/Lange/and Oris all well intended, but yeah, mostly Rolex/Tudor despite a ton of other stuff dropping. Hopefully folks check out the other lineups that do not get the press.

The pink Tag Heuer Carrera Date is amazing. I can't wait until some Chinese brand rips them off, I'd love one.

Are the Swiss really going with the Aliexpress "let's make an homage in 50 different colors" playbook? Rolex, Cartier, Panerai, Tag... 🙄 I'd rather see other changes / innovations.

Love the Montblanc and Laurent Ferrier, though! And thanks for giving some other brands some W&W love! Now that Rolex dropped the Milgauss, I have no interest in the brand.

·

Lots of good stuff here, especially Laurent Ferrier and Ressence. Two interesting greens.

Not sure I dig the Panerai though. I generally like them too, but the dial feels unbalanced (indices too far to the edge, no logo) and the price is bananas.

·

Well, the Laurent Ferrier is gorgeous, but at a cost of $62,000 it will not get on my wrist. Thankfully, there are a great many watches that appeal to my taste, and that cost far less. If I ever hit the lottery, though...

Yeah, colors are definitely the cheap way to mix things up. Then again, a brand like Omega tried last year and we are still waiting on them...

Yeah, the Montblanc and LF would be my 1&2.

Exactly, will never own one, but still beautiful. I also they will sell almost none at full retail. These brands get crushed once the secondary market hits.

Love that pink Tag, but its just too small. Not like I could afford it. But hey.

·

This was a great read.

Thanks

I really like seeing a watch like that in Pink. If i had the money, I think I’d rock that.
